Specializing in 20th century and contemporary music, the Quatuor Diotima is among France's most in-demand string quartets. The group has commissioned and performed many new works. The Quatuor Diotima was formed in 1996 by graduates of top conservatories in Paris and Lyon. The current members are violinists Yun-Peng Zhao and Léo Marillier, violist Franck Chevalier, and cellist Pierre Morlet. The group tends to use the French name Quatuor Diotima even in anglophone contexts. The name carries overtones in both the Romantic era – Diotima was the name of a heroine in a novel by Friedrich Hölderlin – and in the contemporary, from Luigi Nono's composition Fragmente-Stille, an Diotima.

Genre: French, Pop Rock | Label: Ideal Records

Issued before the release of Chrominance Decoder, April March's first large-scale U.S. album, Lessons of April March collects tracks March recorded with Bertrand Burgulat (three of which appear on Chrominance Decoder), as well as cuts from her Sympathy for the Record Industry releases (Los Cincos, Chick Habit and Paris in April). As such, the record has a pasted-together feel, largely due to the sheer number of collaborators March has worked with – but at points, it's a lovely showcase for her re-creations of 1960s French pop and yè-yè music. Case in point: the track "Chick Habit," which adapts English lyrics from Serge Gainsbourg's "Laisser Tomber les Filles," originally sung by France Gall. March's more modern tracks are a hit or miss affair here – those which later appeared on Chrominance Decoder are slick, unique and thoroughly worthwhile, but some of the earlier work collected on the album (and the closing track "Jesus and I Love You," from the Orgazmo soundtrack) seem like tacked-on throwaways.

Thr Album features the world premiere recordings of String Quartets Nos. 3 and 5 (six-movement version) by Conrado del Campo (1878-1953), one of the most original but least well-known Spanish composers of the first half of the twentieth century. The concert was part of the Proyecto Conrado, which involves programming the first complete cycle of his thirteen string quartets. This will go hand in hand with the publication of a complete edition of the scores, most of which have never been published, and the release of recordings of the quartets (in various formats). The aim of this ambitious initiative is to rescue a significant body of works from the undeserved neglect into which it has fallen.
