Over the course of time there have been many overlooked artists in classical music, because of their race and/or gender. It is important to acknowledge that we have not yet heard the whole story due to this sidelining of voices. Composers Joseph Boulogne Chevalier de Saint-Georges, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, William Grant Still, Florence B. Price, Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson, and George Walker, have all contributed beautifully crafted works to the repertoire, but are not widely celebrated.

Newmarket Music is pleased to announce the release of Mancini, the eight offering from respected Australian jazz vocalist Michelle Nicolle. A wonderfully executed collection of songs in homage of one of the world’s most iconic composers, Henry Mancini, best remembered for his film and television scores.

Colorado native Michelle Mandico traded in snowy slopes as a ski instructor for warm sounds of Nashville, TN to deepen her career as a writer and musician. Encouraged by a musical family, Michelle grew up singing with her sisters before learning to play piano at age 5 and she began songwriting shortly after. Her music is a cross between contemporary artists like Ingrid Michaelson and true classics such as Joni Mitchell.
