Austin’s art-rock punk …And You Will Know Us by the Trail Of Dead return with their 11th album – XI: Bleed Here Now – set for release on June 10th, 2022 via Century Media in Europe and Dine Alone Records in North America.

Five years on from the release of their previous record, Austin's beloved art-rock heroes .And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead return with their tenth album - X: The Godless Void and Other Stories. Expansive yet concise, this album nods to the band's traditional touchstones - the feral scree of Sonic Youth, Rush's symphonic anthems, the textured bliss of My Bloody Valentine - while morphing effortlessly into newer forms. The synth-orchestral swell of curtain-raiser "Opening Crescendoes" recalls Hans Zimmer and Tangerine Dream, before "All Who Wander" descends from guitar-soaked high drama into simmering, murky psych.

A Broke Down Melody is the 1996 soundtrack CD to the surf movie/documentary of the same name. Released on 14 November, 2006 throughout Brushfire/Universal, it features music by Jack Johnson, Doug Martsch of Built To Spill, Feist, and Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder.

The Common People's only album is melancholy psychedelia, quirky but in a pretty forgettable way. The mood's set by the opening "Soon There'll Be Thunder," where an appealing two-chord melancholy melody is set to raindrop-falling haunting electric keyboard and sweeping, gloomy strings. It's a groove that's mined too often by the subsequent tracks, which are passably pleasing moody pop-psychedelia in limited doses, but too similar to each other when grouped so closely. The constant rain-cloud-hovering-over-a-hung-head ethos begins to turn sour rather than soothing after a few songs, even though the string arrangements used on just a few cuts have a nicely shivering, weepy quality. "They Didn't Even Go to the Funeral" is a most unfortunate departure into mock vaudeville humor, and while a couple other songs get dressed up with some peppy horns, it's hard to tell whether the embarrassing grunts in "This Life She Is Mine" are an attempt at funky soul or simulations of the moment of orgasm. The pace does get broken up by the hard but monotonous fuzz-guitar piano rock of "Go Every Way," as well as some more folk-rockish and melodically limited sullen stuff.

The vocal blend here is ravishing. Seldom have individual singers matched their voices more richly in this repertoire, with Patricia Clark leading with a sweet, soaring soprano, her gentle touch of vibrato ideal for Dowland's melodic lines. The choice of songs too is admirable, offering some of Dowland's very finest inspirations. Patricia Clark and Edger Fleet were both performers with the Deller Consort, and Desmond Dupre was Alfred Deller's accompanist for most of his career. Mastering engineer Doug Pomeroy provides an ultra-high-end, crystalline, digital transfer that allows every nuance of the recording's exceptional acoustics to shine!
