Milton Nasciment

Milton Chesley Carroll American singer and songwriter born in Texas.

Frozen in Time is a three movement concerto for solo percussion and orchestra by Israeli-American composer Avner Dorman. The work was commissioned by the Socrates Stiftung Karin Rehn-Kaufmann with support from the Hamburg Philharmonic and the Israeli Consulate in Berlin. The piece was completed in 2007 and received its world premiere in December 2007 by Martin Grubinger and the Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Hamburg conducted by Simone Young. The work has since become a standard piece in the contemporary percussion concerto repertoire.

The Symphony No. 9 in E minor, "From the New World", Op. 95, B. 178, popularly known as the New World Symphony, was composed by Antonín Dvořák in 1893 while he was the director of the National Conservatory of Music of America from 1892 to 1895. It premiered in New York City on 16 December 1893. It has been described as one of the most popular of all symphonies. In older literature and recordings, this symphony was – as for its first publication – numbered as Symphony No. 5.

Since that last John Klein share featured the orchestra and chorus of Leo Addeo, I figured I'd throw up another record from Mr. Addeo. This one isn't nearly so peppy as that one, but it does have a nice cover.

The vocal-piano duo has always been one of my favorite configurations to listen to as well as perform. Timeless recordings from pairings like Abbey Lincoln & Hank Jones's "When There Is Love" and the Tony Bennett / Bill Evans album have remained a fixture in my rotation since my first listen many years ago.

He ranks perhaps as the second greatest genius in jazz history, after New Orleans’s most celebrated son, Louis Armstrong. It is as if the music is there inside him, already assembled, and he has only to put the soprano saxophone to his mouth for it all to flow forth in a joyous cascade. 1968 was a tragic time for Memphis. Just before Christmas '67, Otis Redding, the biggest star of local soul music label Stax Records, was killed in a plane crash. In April 1968, Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated at the Lorraine Motel. Also that spring, Stax lost control of its catalog of recordings to Warner. Undeterred and unwilling to fail, new label co-owner Al Bell decided to build a roster of acts that included The Staple Singers, Isaac Hayes, and Johnnie Taylor.
