Mirror is a Dutch Symphonic progressive Rock band formed in 1972. At the time of its formation, the band was a four piece consisting of high school friends Kees Walravens on guitar, Johan Saanen on bass guitar and vocals, Paula Mennen on piano, organ, synthesizer and vocals, and Peter Fransen on drums. In 1973 the band expanded its line-up with the addition of Philip de Goey on saxophone, woodwinds, and oboe. Their sole album was recorded over six days at the Stable Studio in Arnhem, The Netherlands. The album was titled Daybreak and was released in 1976, pressed in only 500 copies. Edward Artemiev is best known for his electronic music scores to three of Andrei Tarkovsky's most striking films: Solaris (1972), The Mirror (1974), and Stalker (1979). Then it comes as no surprise that the music has been packaged and repackaged in various ways, official (including their first appearance in the mid-'80s on the Soviet record label Melodia) or not. This collection remains the most extensive and best presented. First released by Torso Kino in 1990, it has been reissued on the label of the composer's son in 1999. The particularity of this album resides in its track list. Choosing against logic, it alternates pieces (or "scenes") from Stalker and Solaris - there is only one track from Mirror. Artemiev likes to use one main theme for each film and develop variations around it…
A strong and impressive debut effort from this Greek ensemble, taking the art of sophisticated folk inspired music into new and exciting territories at their best. Lisa Gerrard was so indelibly and obviously a part of what made Dead Can Dance what it is that it's little wonder that The Mirror Pool feels essentially like a continuation of that band's haunting, vast atmospheres. Without Brendan Perry's deep, rolling voice as a contrast, Gerrard's sky-sweeping abilities transform the entire recording into a truly mystical experience…
The Jordanaires were an American vocal quartet that formed as a gospel group in 1948. They are known for providing background vocals for Elvis Presley, in live appearances and recordings from 1956 to 1972. The group has also worked in the recording studio, on stage, and on television with many other country and rock and roll artists - Jim Reeves, Patsy Cline, George Jones…
Since the surprisingly successful "Presence" in 2015 (which even spawned a minor underground hit with the single "Black") only one album has left the Twice a man assembly line: the ambient "Cocoon" from 2019, which was released as a digital album, a 59 minute long music video and a limited edition CD.
