Wolfgang Mitterer studied organ, composition and electroacoustics in Vienna and Stockholm. He is not only one of the Austrian specialists for electronics as well as being equally brilliant on the keyboard and on the slide controls, but is also one of the most innovative composers. His work oscillates between composition and open form. Apart from music for organ and orchestra, a piano concerto and an opera he has produced electronic pieces, conceptualized sound installations, and engaged in collective improvisation with diverse groups, developing a language of extremes, tension and complexity.

All the themes from all of Beethoven’s symphonies, played live by an orchestra, concentrated into one hour and supplemented with electronics – that’s “Nine in One”. Or: a wild rollercoaster ride through the twists and turns of Ludwig van Beethoven’s brain. In the front carriage: Wolfgang Mitterer. He has a reputation, as a musician many’s the time he’s tormented the big concert organs of the continent, as well as composing for important orchestras, ensembles and opera houses, rocking it in jazz clubs or writing film music in his studio in Vienna. Wolfgang Mitterer, the acclaimed contemporary composer and great experimenter, has embarked on a journey into the world of pop, writing songs and lyrics and mixing whatever there is to mix. The new album produced by this cheerful commuter between musical genres provides the perfect sound for all locations, whether you’re looking for underground music or tracks for your favorite techno clubbing, discotheque or jazz club. And the perfect sound, too, for actress Birgit Minichmayr, celebrated star of the Wiener Burgtheater and Berliner Volksbühne, who originally wanted to become a singer. Her smoky and sensual voice snuggles up to cool sound samples, succumbs to the beat, and gets into the groove together with a crew of multi-stylistic instrumentalists: Sopop! These fantastic song-balloons soar high into the commercial music sky and are quite likely to cause major disruptions of the pop charts.

Wolfgang Mitterer works and composes in the field of collective improvisation music, plays the organ and electronic instruments. The space-relatedness, which he frequently emphasises in his titles, gave works such as "Waldmusik", "silbersandmusik", "Turmbau zu Babel", "horizontal noise", "vertical silence" and "Labyrinth 6–11" a particular character. Sometimes up to 4000 people worked on these; in addition many traditional sounds such as brass bands and choral societies were used. These projects ultimately emerged from Wolfgang Mitterer's recordings in the most diverse musical genres and through joint appearances with representatives of the DJ scene and concerts, also through reinterpretations of classical works from Bach, to Schubert.
