It was when the young Haydn was appointed Kapellmeister to Prince Nikolaus Esterházy that he composed his Missa Cellensis, a work of vast proportions, whose popularity is demonstrated by the many surviving copies.
In this interpretation full of vivid contrasts, the RIAS Kammerchor and the Akademie für Alte Musik confirm their extraordinary ability to reveal every subtlety of a composition that possesses almost operatic energy.

FLAC (tracks+cue,log,scans) | 1:15:12 | 449 Mb
Genre: Soul, Funk, Rhythm & Blues, Disco / Label: Kent Dance

Stunning soul from the deepest depths of the American underground – upbeat groovers that mix a clubby vibe with deeper vocals – but all without hitting a disco sound at all! Some of these numbers are from the years before Studio 54, but showcase a changing style of soul – more sophisticated, a bit more funk in the mix – and this fantastic blend of instrumentation, arrangements, and production – all of which give the songs a level of perfection that definitely deserves the "masterpiece" in the title! Most of these tracks are from rare singles, but a few haven't been issued before – and together, the cuts really show the ever-evolving understanding we have of classic soul – always shaped strongly by excellent collections like this.

As a composer coping with the symphonic legacy of Beethoven, Handel, and Brahms, it was difficult for Felix Woyrsch to develop his own idea of the symphony, especially since he did not aspire to break with the past but sought a negotiable path on which he could continue the symphonic tradition of the nineteenth century in his own personal way.
