The application of digital signal processing (DSP) to problems in audio has been an area of growing importance since the pioneering DSP work of the 1960s and 70s. In the 1980s, DSP micro-chips became sufficiently powerful to handle the complex processing operations required for sound restoration in real-time, or close to real-time.

This text aims to present relevant, accurate and readable definitions of common and not so common terms, algorithms, techniques and information related to DSP technology and applications. It is hoped that the information presented will complement the formal teachings of the many excellent DSP textbooks available and bridge the gaps that often exist between advanced DSP texts and introductory DSP.

This book constitutes the refereed post-proceedings of the Second International Conference on Theoretical and Mathematical Foundations of Computer Science, ICTMF 2011, held in Singapore in May 2011.

This textbook provides comprehensive coverage for courses in the basics of design and implementation of digital filters. The book assumes only basic knowledge in digital signal processing and covers state-of-the-art methods for digital filter design and provides a simple route for the readers to design their own filters. The advanced mathematics that is required for the filter design is minimized by providing an extensive MATLAB toolbox with over 300 files.
