Danish jazz pianist Carsten Dahl and his bandmates reach for higher and more complicated ground in order to bring forward surprises on "Caleidoscopia", their fourth album since 2007. It’s improvisational jazz at its best, the music multiplying and splitting up in colourful patterns that rearrange themselves into ever-varying themes and motifs, like the myriad colours and shifting designs seen through a kaleidoscope.
