Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet

Noisy Boys! The Saxony Sessions is the 2008 album by Mike & The Ravens. This was released on the Zoho Music subsidiary label, Zoho Roots.

Considered to be one of the greatest composers of the Spanish Golden Age, Francisco Guerrero (1528-1599) is also the author of a travel account published for the first time in 1590. By creating a dialogue between Guerrero’s incredible pieces and music from the Near East, Le Banquet du Roy has recreated the composer’s itinerary and accompanies us on a trip full of emotion and fervour.

Light/Flux sees the Scandinavian outfit Mythic Sunship take their self-proclaimed Anaconda Rock in a new direction. Notorious for their usually improvised approach, Light/Flux is the result of a more composed, melodically and harmonically curious process, though still with the band’s signature penchant for unhinged improvisation at its core. The album was recorded in the legendary RMV Studios located in Stockholm. Imagine Talk Talk being joined by John Coltrane – here, Mythic Sunship further their unique sound and approach to create a record that evokes both melancholy and somber bleakness amidst the traditional fiery peaks the band is so well known for.

In this concert recorded live in Hamburg, the qualities that made the reputation of this quartet on the jazz planet emerge in full light: an alternation of lyrical flights and incandescent movements, a fusion of classical, contemporary and jazz music, a union of four personalities that respect eachother. This is the true hallmark of Quest: a saxophonist (Dave Liebman), a pianist (Richie Beirach) a bass player (Ron McClure) and a drummer (Billy Hart) permanently applying a rule, formerly cited by a famous political leader: independence within interdependence.
