KMRU is the moniker of Joseph Kamaru, a sound artist, and producer based in Nairobi. One of the leading exponents of the burgeoning experimental music scene in Nairobi and beyond he was listed by Resident Advisor as one of "15 East African Artists You Need To Hear" in 2018 and is a regular performer at the fabled Nyegenyege Festival having also presented live performances at CTM festival and Gamma Festival. Peel is KMRU’s first release for Editions Mego. Exquisite mix of field recordings and electronics unravelling at a repetitive and leisurely pace to expose a rich tapestry of sound that has been revered for it’s ability to cross borders with the sheer undertow of emotional content…

"The last few years have given us much pleasure, but there were also really bitter moments," says the band. "The death of our friend and longtime manager Jochen Hülder was a shock, and one year later we had to say good-bye to our former drummer Wölli, who lost the fight against a cancer." Both experiences made us clear once again how much happiness we as a band With our friendship, and that our time does not last forever. "

Alternate African Reality is a follow-up to several compilations I have published on Syrphe since 2007 (the first one, Beyond Ignorance and Borders included various artists from Africa and Asia), and even earlier on my defunct tape label in the 1990s (the last tape, Archives Humaines vol.1, was published in 1996 and included 25 artists from 25 countries, including non-Western ones : South Africa, Japan, Chile, Brazil).

In it he describes the 12 months of the calendar and in a thirteenth poem a fictitious “leap month”, which he then rejects again.

The GewandhausChor is a semi-professional mixed-voice choir which, as the philharmonic choir of the Gewandhausorchester, is maintained by the Leipzig Gewandhaus and is one of the leading choirs of its kind. He takes part in vocal symphonic concerts with the Gewandhaus Orchestra, appears with his own a cappella programs and performs with other renowned ensembles. The Gewandhauschor is a member of the Association of German Concert Choirs.
