Laura Ann Boyd and Kevin Harding formed Quatro na Bossa in 2003. Drawing initially from early Bossa Nova standards, the group's repertoire has expanded to include other Brazilian genres and some original material. The quartet has performed with many drummers and percussionists including Rogerio Boccato, Adriano Santos and Jorge Alabe and locally Andy Brockmann and Matt Wyatt.

An early-'90s album from the great Salif Keita. This one pulls out all the stops to appeal to a Western audience at some level. Keita's vocals are, as always, outstanding. On top of this, though, a slew of performers make appearances and/or help out on production. Former bandmate Kante Manfila provides the primary guitar work for the album and master keyboardist Joe Zawinul both plays keyboards throughout and provides the production work.

Over a period of some twenty years, from the late 1720s, Handel composed a series of virtuoso arias using only thewords Allelujah and Amen as his texts. They were probably for use in private worship, and take their place in the tradition of Divine Song established by Purcell and other composers. Here they receive their first recordings, set in a context of contemporary sacred song and instrumental music, with theaccompaniment provided by the beguiling sound of two theorbos and chamber organ. They are heard here in the extraordinarily dramatic timbres of a male-soprano voice perhaps as close as modern listeners can come to the vocal acrobatics of the castrati who so amazed their own audiences.

Both the works on this recording were written during wartime. Debussy’s 1915 En blanc et noir, composed during a late creative burst, is his musical response to the horrors of World War I. Messiaen’s revolutionary Visions de l’Amen from 1943, written to be performed by the composer and his teenage pupil, Yvonne Loriod, is a profound religious meditation whose emotional intensity is overwhelming. The role of the two pianos is clearly divided. Melodic and expressive elements are confined to the second piano, Messiaen’s part, whereas all that is percussion, brilliance and rhythmic development is heard in the first piano, Loriod’s part.

Amen Corner were a Welsh R&B-tinged pop band of the late '60s featuring singer Andy Fairweather-Low, organist Blue Weaver, guitarist Neil Jones, bassist Clive Taylor, saxophonists Allen Jones and Mike Smith, and drummer Dennis Bryon. They scored the first of their six British chart hits with "Gin House" in the summer of 1967. "(If Paradise Is) Half as Nice" went to number one in early 1969. By then, Fairweather-Low had become a teenage heartthrob and the band had switched management and record companies, but they split up by the end of the year.
