An exceptional amount of musical activity took place in the court of Ferrara during the latter years of the 16 th century, in particular thanks to a remarkable trio of female voices who had been trained by Luzzasco Luzzaschi, the court’s maestro di cappella. To hear them was a privilege that Alfonso d' Este allowed his guests only briefly and infrequently. Their repertoire was kept secret and was finally published — and then only in part — in 1601. The singers of La Néréide here devote their first recording to this collection in its entirety, reconstructing the conditions in which these works were created with harpsichord, viol and lute accompaniment: the harpsichord would have been played by Luzzaschi himself, whilst the three singers mastered the other instruments with as much skill as their voices.

Chicago based singer-songwriter Denise La Grassa continues her inspiring musical journey with the release of "The Flame." This powerful album is a testament to the strength and resilience of the human spirit - attributes that embody her own 'North of 40' journey, itself ignited by the closing of Lincoln College in Central IL. “I was heading into my 6th year of transforming the former jazz studies program into one with more practical music production and business degrees. The closing was a shock to everyone as the college had been around for 157 years,” said La Grassa. “It was then I decided I was going to follow my own dream by focusing full-time on songwriting and performance.”

The seeds for the La De Das THE HAPPY PRINCE were sown very early on in 1967, long before Pete Townsend's TOMMY and Ray Davies' ARTHUR were even conceived, unfortunately it would be two years before it was finally released.Band members Bruce Howard and Trevor Wilson were talking of a rock opera as early as 1966 and started writing material early in 1967. The project was temporarily put on hold while the band left New Zealand in May '67 to hopefully conquer the Aussie scene. The La De Das eventually talked EMI Australia into recording THE HAPPY PRINCE album in January 1969. Finally released in April 1969 to unanimously excellent reviews, it was only a moderate seller at the time. This album is comprised of two versions of THE HAPPY PRINCE - one version is without Adrian Rawlins' narration in an attempt to show how the album might have sounded as a collection of songs.

This recording of La Sonnambula is notable on a number of fronts. It's the first recording of the opera based on a 2004 critical edition of the score that confirms the leading role was indeed written for a mezzo-soprano, although it has been performed by sopranos for much of its history. (Among the first Aminas were the celebrated mezzos Giuditta Pasta and Maria Malibran.) It's also the first recording using period instruments, in this case Orchestra La Scintilla, based at the Basel Opera and conducted by Alessandro de Marchi in an idiomatic and lively reading. And, as the promotional materials trumpet, it's the first recorded collaboration between superstars Cecilia Bartoli and Juan Diego Flórez. Although less hoopla is made of him, the recording also features a superbly lyrical performance by baritone Ildebrando D'Arcangelo.
