"Be Cool" captures legendary trumpeter Eddie Henderson in peak form on perhaps his best recording yet.
An expansive set of music by 77-year-old jazz trumpeter Dr. Eddie Henderson encompassing jazz, funk, boogaloo, blues, ballads, modal, tin pan alley and more. Surrounded by a stellar ensemble with pianist and NEA jazz master Kenny Barron, alto saxophonist Donald Harrison, bassist Essiet Essiet, and drummer Mike Clark, Henderson delivers an album of transcendent performances.
Behemoth's front man Nergal has been teasing his fans about his upcoming solo project for many months. The name of the project is Me And That Man with Nergal and musician John Porter. In Nergal's words, the album will include country and rockabilly elements but there is some folkish touch to it as well. Overall it has a blues vibe all over and flirts with various genres. I love Madrugada, Leonard Cohen, Wovenhand, Nick Cave and more… and I wouldn’t be surprised if you find these inspirations in this new music.
Of course, if you’re going to be cool it helps to surround yourself with the coolest of the cool, and Henderson has done just that: his smokin’ quintet also features saxophonist Donald Harrison, pianist Kenny Barron, bassist Essiet Essiet, and drummer Mike Clark. Together, the band conjures smoldering funk, lush ballads, broad-shouldered swing, and bristling bop — in all, a prismatic display of the many facets of cool.
