The show is based on the DC characters created by Geoff Johns and stars Brec Bassinger, Luke Wilson, Amy Smart, Neil Jackson, Hunter Sansone, Joel McHale and Trae Romano.The drama tells the story of high-school sophomore Courtney Whitmore who inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past and reimagines the classic superhero team the Justice Society of America. Johns is also executive producing the Warner Bros. Television production with Greg Berlanti & Sarah Schechter (Arrow, The Flash, Riverdale) and Melissa Carter (Queen Sugar).

The score, composed by Pinar Toprak, was released by Hollywood Records on March 8, 2019 in the United States. In May 2018, Clark Gregg indicated that the film's soundtrack would include songs from the 1990s. Pinar Toprak signed on to compose the film's score the following month, making her the first woman to score an MCU film. Toprak said that the main part of the score's development was the title character's theme, while later developing themes for the Kree and the Skrulls, whom she tried to connect in order to "find the universe" for the film's scenes in space and Earth, while describing the scenes on Earth as "fun". Toprak tried to develop the film's theme as a theme "that is recognizable from the first two notes". She began developing the film's theme by "humming ideas", eventually coming with "a minor-seven interval" during a walk, which she used as the film's theme. Toprak said that Danvers' theme is "strong and powerful", but also emotional, in order to focus on the character's vulnerability.
