"The Works" is the 4th studio album by the English singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Nik Kershaw. It was released in 1989 and was the last album he created for MCA Records. Kershaw chose the album's title as he felt the album represented "the collected works of Nik Kershaw". He did not release any new solo material until "15 Minutes", 10 years later. The album was not commercially successful, though the lead single "One Step Ahead" reached No. #55 in the UK. "Elisabeth's Eyes", the second and final single, failed to chart altogether.

More comprehensive than the U.S. Anthology, the British Best of Nick Kershaw covers Kershaw's career from the beginning. Where it fails however, is in its exclusion of the single versions of some of the hits (including "Wouldn't It Be Good") in favor of 12" remixes.

This is a compilation of Nik Kershaw's best songs. Having been underrated as both a songwriter and performer, these songs give a nice overview of the various hits he's had and the variety of styles in which Nik kershaw can be recognised. Who doesn't remember megahits like "I Won't Let the Sun Go Down on Me", "Wouldn't It Be Good", and "The Riddle" in their orginal setting? To your surmprise, you may find there's a lot more great Nik Kershaw songs, each of them as original and well produced as all of these near powerpop megasellers.
