Nina Dare! [japan Edition] (1996)

NiNa are a multinational pop supergroup formed in 1999 and featuring '80s new wave musicians Kate Pierson of American band the B-52's, Mick Karn from the British group Japan, Takemi Shima and Masahide Sakuma from Japanese group the Plastics, as well as Yuki from Japanese '90s J-Pop legends Judy & Mary. Pierson and Yuki share vocal duties, Karn plays bass, Sakuma deals with guitar, keyboards, and some bass, and session drummer Steven Wolf completes the musical lineup.

2016 has been a stellar year for experimental hip hop luminary DJ Shadow, aka Josh Davis, with the release of his critically acclaimed studio album The Mountain Will Fall – his first release in five years – drawing praise from all corners, from the Guardian who called the record “impressive in its inventiveness” to MOJO who claimed “Shadow is back in the frame” and AV Club who hailed it as “DJ Shadow’s best work since his early-aughts heyday”. For many, it is Shadow’s 1996 debut album Endtroducing that they keep returning to, widely regarded as a groundbreaking release that paved the way for experimental hip hop and changed the shape of electronic music from that point on. Upon its release The Guardian gave it a 5* review and called it “One of the most daring and original albums of recent times”, continuing, “This is genius”, while Spin wrote that the album ""practically folds you into its symphonic fantasia, the coming-of-age story of a 24-year-old bunk-bed dreamer."" Almost a decade later Pitchfork awarded Endtroducing a perfect 10 in their review of the 2005 Deluxe Edition, calling the record “deeply spiritual.”

Deluxe reissue of the third album by the Cranberries that sold over 6 million units worldwide, reached number one in six countries and became the band's highest-charting album on the US Billboard 200. In this deluxe reissue the original album has been remastered by John Dent at Metropolis. This 3CD set includes unreleased outtakes and early mixes of the studio album and twelve rare live tracks recorded on the band's 1996 'Free to Decide' tour. It also includes a 4000 sleevenote about the making of the album based on interviews with the remaining members conducted by band archivist Eoin Devereux.

The Cranberries’ third album To The Faithful Departed will be reissued as expanded CD and vinyl editions in October.

Released on March 26, 1996, the album is a pitch-perfect amalgamation of the band members’ musical personalities, yielding three #1 hits – “Big Bang Baby,” “Lady Picture Show,” and “Trippin’ On A Hole In A Paper Heart.” On the eve of the album’s 25th anniversary, we're proud to announce the upcoming release of a newly remastered version of TINY MUSIC… expanded with unreleased studio and live recordings.

The Aeroplane Flies High contains all five singles – "Bullet With Butterfly Wings," "1979," "Zero," "Tonight, Tonight," "Thirty-Three" – from Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness in a box set shaped like a 45 single carrying case from the '60s. Though the set contains all of the B-sides from the five singles, the running order isn't quite the same as the original releases; for example, in its original release, "Butterfly Wings" only had two B-sides, but it is augmented for covers of new wave artists like the Cars, Blondie, and Missing Persons.

Sounding like a suburban, melodic white-funk-injected version of King Missile's performance art/standup comedy, "The Distance" became a novelty hit in the fall of 1996, sending Cake's second album, Fashion Nugget, to platinum status. Certainly, "The Distance" was the only reason Fashion Nugget went platinum, because the remainder of the album is too collegiate and arcane for mainstream music tastes. It isn't because it's obscure or intellectual – it's because the band is smirking. An "ironic" cover of Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" is the key to the album, sending the signal that Cake consider themselves above everyone else, and nothing is too insignificant to make fun of. And that wouldn't necessarily have been a problem if they had the wit or musical skills that would make their music either funny or listenable. Instead, they wallow in sophomoric jokes that rely on self-consciously elaborate wordplay. Occasionally, their blend of collegiate musical styles – funk, hip-hop, alternative rock – makes the music easy to digest in small doses, such as "The Distance," but it isn't varied enough to prevent the album from becoming tedious when played straight through.
