A behind-the-stars songwriter, music producer, and actor as well as a singer/songwriter in his own right, Los Angeles native Finneas O'Connell – aka Finneas – is recognized for his sleek and intimate alternative pop style. Emerging on the international stage first as an actor – he appeared in the film Bad Teacher (2011) and on TV's Glee (2015), among other roles – in his teens, he drew accolades in the late 2010s for his Grammy-nominated contributions to the outcast anthems of his sister, Billie Eilish. Following the March 2019 release of her first full-length, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, and related touring as a member of her live band, he stepped forward with his own debut album, Blood Harmony, in October 2019. Two years later, he provided the score for the high school drama film The Fallout. Born in Los Angeles in 1997, Finneas Baird O'Connell grew up in a creative family; his parents are actress/screenwriter Maggie Baird and actor Patrick O'Connell.

Christine, based on Stephen King's novel about an unusual kind of car repossession, was taken by John Carpenter from book to screen in a blazingly short time. Rather than bypassing his usual methods, as he did with The Thing, Carpenter once again chose to do the score. The original soundtrack released from the movie was a brief affair indeed, offering up a small selection of rock & roll tunes used in the movie, plus a short selection ("Christine Attacks," here with the subtitle "Plymouth Fury") from Carpenter's score. As it is, this Tangerine Dream-influenced, mechanically pounding number is probably the best thing in the score, highly visual, threatening, and relentless. As with the best of Carpenter's work, it's enough to haunt your dreams for a few days – a property shared by the scores for Halloween and The Fog (both on Varese Sarabande).

If there’s one thing both an elf and a dwarf could agree on, it’s that a little aesthetic brilliance goes a long way. This is why we’re so thrilled to share that Mondo, in partnership with Amazon Studios and Sparks and Shadows, is releasing a gorgeous limited-edition version of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power‘s season one soundtrack. This 10 CD set is an expansion of Mondo’s previous two CD-version of the soundtrack. While the original soundtrack is also gorgeous, this new collector’s edition takes the epic sounds of The Rings of Power to a whole new level./quote]

Singer/actress Judy Garland had a varied career that began in vaudeville and extended into movies, records, radio, television, and personal appearances. She is best remembered as the big-voiced star of a series of movie musicals, particularly The Wizard of Oz, in which she sang her signature song, "Over the Rainbow." But unlike most other film stars of her era, she also maintained a career as a recording artist, and after her movie-making days were largely over, she was able to transfer her stardom to performing and recording, culminating in her Grammy-winning number one album Judy at Carnegie Hall.

Kelly Lynch said it best in the 2000 version of Charlie’s Angels: “Never send a man to do a woman’s job.” Nineteen years later, Elizabeth Banks gets in the director’s chair and casts Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska to play the next generation of Charlie’s Angels. As the soundtrack’s co-executive producer, Ariana Grande recruits Miley Cyrus, Normani and Kiana Ledé as just some of the fierce voices that emphasise Charlie’s Angels' themes of bravery, teamwork and girl power. Kash Doll, Kim Petras, ALMA and Stefflon Don jump right in to showcase the strength of women in numbers on the opener “How It’s Done”.

The central irony in director Dan Pritzker’s film about Buddy Bolden, the first jazz musician to become known for his individual sound, is that no recordings of Bolden are known to exist. (He was active at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th, and he died in 1931.) But if the soundtrack to Bolden begins as speculation, that’s not the same as groping in the dark: We know about aspects of the cornetist’s eclectic repertoire and how he transformed it, in an ensemble style which can be gleaned from the sole existing photograph of Bolden, standing amid his band with trombone, two clarinets (in B-flat and C), upright bass, and guitar.

Breakin' Review by Victor W. Valdivia
Though the Breakin' soundtrack has become a quaint period piece since its release, it is still a notable album. It was really the first introduction for many to hip-hop culture and music (however softened and tidied up for mass-market consumption it was) and still stands as a perfect summary of the more commercial elements of electro-dance, electro-funk, and even rap of the era. It may sound rather corny and silly compared to the harder-edged acts of the time (let alone today), but there's no denying that the title cut and "Ain't Nobody" are still enjoyable songs, and will probably bring back many fond memories for those who were around during its release. The album is also notable for the debut performance of Ice-T, who is miles away from "New Jack Hustler" (not to mention "Cop Killer") with the poppy, good-natured "Reckless." It's hardly essential, but a funny rarity nonetheless. For all its flaws, fans who want to learn the roots of hip-hop (or are in the mood for a cute, lighthearted listen) should seek Breakin' out.
