With the passing of The Allman Brothers Band and Lynyrd Skynyrd, it is nice to notice that the Southern Rock genre still produces new blood every time. The Southern Locomotive Band, an up-and-coming new star who inherited the Southern Rock royal road genes of the 70's, The band release their long-awaited third album in 2022! Southern Locomotive Band released their debut album in 2020 "Somewhere In Time", following the second album "Luck of the Draw" in 2021, and now the third album “Back in Town Tonight” in 2022. The group consists of namesake Danny Southern (guitar, vocals, Hammond organ), Greg Carter (bass, vocals) and Curtis Hammer (drums, percussion) and it is not difficult to compare the trio with ZZ Top, because this group also has the drummer the only one without a beard. Musically there are also similarities: both bands make bluesy, often solid Southern rock.
Blackberry Smoke’s crunchy Southern rock may be made for fuzzed-out electric guitars, but their songs sure do translate well to being played acoustically. Now the Georgia crew is releasing a new EP, The Southern Ground Sessions, with just that in mind, including a stripped-down take of “Run Away From It All.”
The Black Crowes’ 1992 album The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion has been remastered and expanded for CD and vinyl reissues next month. The reissue has been overseen by Chris and Rich Robinson and album producer George Drakoulias. A 3CD super deluxe edition box set features 14 unreleased tracks including two studio recordings,a live February 1993 concert, and the never-before-heard live in-studio performances at the end of the Southern Harmony session – along with B-sides and the original album (which was remastered from the original 1/4″ production master tape). This box also comes with ‘stuff’ which includes a “hymn book” with insights from both Chris and Rich Robinson, sheet music and four lithographs.
