The road to the NYC Sessions has been a long and painful one. He almost never played piano again after a freak accident. Thank God he got better and was able to make some fine music again. This album is just plain sensational. Not only is Mr. Bass in fine form, he also contributes wonderful charts to the proceedings. And the music in all its diversity and passion appears to have an unstoppable momentum under his leadership.

Portishead‘s exceptional live album, Roseland NYC Live, which features the trip hop icons backed by a 28-piece orchestra, was released 25 years ago today (11/2/1998) and to celebrate, the band have released an expanded edition to streaming services. It adds “Undenied” and “Numb” from the concert film as well as the full length performance of “Western Eyes,” and the whole thing’s been remastered.

Last week, The Rolling Stones took over New York City club Racket NYC to celebrate the release of their highly anticipated new album Hackney Diamonds, the band’s first album of new material in 18 years. During that performance, the band invited Lady Gaga on stage to offer up a thrilling rendition of “Sweet Sounds of Heaven.” A live recording of that performance is out now!

After the band went into a hiatus in 2005, Randy Bachman and Fred Turner reunited in 2010 for a tour and collaboration on new songs.
