2xHD presents a beautifully remastered rerelease of Live at the Village Vanguard from the Les McCann Trio. Recorded in stereo at the Village Vanguard on July 16, 1967 by George Klabin and featuring McCann on piano with bassist Leroy Vinnegar and drummer Frank Severino, this was one of McCann's last jazz recordings before his turn to R&B in the 1970s.

The Ray Brown Trio consisted of Brown’s colleagues Gene Harris, who plays a lot of piano that sounds rich, full-bodied, and not overly refined. The trio also features Jeff Hamilton, one of the stand-out drummers of the latter-day Woody Herman Herds. The Ray Brown Trio recorded this album live at The Loa in Santa Monica, CA, in July 1988. The club no longer exists, but at the time it was co-owned by Ray Brown.

From January to December 1974, pianist Tsuyoshi Yamamoto and his trio performed daily in a jazz club called Misty that had a full-size New York Steinway concert grand. Producer of Three Blind Mice Takeshi Fujii heard him there, fell in love, and made his hugely successful debut album Midnight Sugar in the spring of the same year. Yamamoto had already recorded his second album Misty, and his year at Misty was winding down. For the third album to be recorded in a year, Fujii decided to capture the trio live in their "everyday setting."

Recorded on July 24th, 1994, at the Philharmonic Hall of Munich, Germany.
Gonzalo Rubalcaba, one of the premier artists in Afro-Cuban music, brings together a cornerstone of bebop and a contemporary of Afro-Cuban percussion to create a Trio of depth and breadth. The Trio traverses mainly through bebop classics, but also takes their audience on brief trips to the more modern. Towards the end of the set the Trio finally travels to their Afro-Cuban roots and then concludes with a light-hearted traditional jazz number.
A pleasure not only to hear but also to watch.

A fine hard bop pianist who is especially effective on trio dates, Mulgrew Miller stretches out with his trio on this first of two CDs recorded at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. He kicks thing off with a driving take of the old chestnut "If I Should Lose You," building the intensity gradually to a feverish pitch, while he never runs short of ideas in a lush treatment of the standard "Skylark." His sauntering original "When I Get There" shows the influence of both Thelonious Monk and gospel music, while his swirling "From Day to Day" showcases bassist Derrick Hodge to good effect. The first volume, Live at the Kennedy Center, closes with a brisk, imaginative arrangement of Charlie Parker's "Relaxin' at Camarillo." Drummer Rodney Green's light touch is also an asset, as is the excellent recording by the highly regarded engineer David Baker, who passed away prior to its release.

These sessions live at Art D'Lugoff's Village Gate night club in Greenwich Village on May 31, 1963 were at one point previously unreleased, eventually issued by the short-lived Metro subsidiary of MGM on vinyl sometime after being recorded. The session is barely over 30 minutes, the sound is a bit thin (but not to its detriment), but Smith's playing is peerless as always, and his band with guitarist Quentin Warren and young drummer Billy Hart may be a curiosity for some. Warren is not the best or most adept plectrist Smith had employed, but gets the job done in a quiet, unassuming manner. Well before hitting his stride as a premier progressive jazz performer, Hart's style is set apart from soul-jazz drummers like Donald Bailey, Billy James, or Bernard Purdie, using looser rhythmic associations instead of hard-edged funky beats…

This album captures four tunes played live in Christmas Day 25 Dec 1974 at The Misty Club, Roppongi-Tokyo. The performances are strait, unhesitatingly, confident; Yamamoto do not wait applause and start another theme promptly. The audience also was high. This CD keeps a great Jazz moment from a distant year of past.

Playing and recording at New York's Village Vanguard is often seen as a sign of ascendancy in the jazz world. For some, the honor is bestowed early on; for others, it comes at a more mature stage; and for a third group, it comes even further down the road. Guitarist Marc Ribot is part of that third group.

The “Sahara” is a club located in the town of Methuen , north of Boston. Thanks to Bob “Jocko” Arcidiacono, the “Sahara” has been featuring the best local jazz ensembles, as well as internationally renowned jazz names such as Bud Shank, Scott Hamilton, Mark Murphy, and others. I'm happy to present this trio featuring two great musicians and friends. On bass is Marshall Wood, currently with Tony Bennett. On drums is my fellow Italian countryman, Marcello Pellitteri, one of NYmost sought after drummers.
