After the jarring reception of 1999's Synkronized, Jamiroquai constructed A Funk Odyssey, something more polished and slick inside the band's own brand of funky disco-rock. Jason Kay and keyboardist/songwriter Toby Smith perfected a maturation that was left keyed in Travelling Without Moving but left open-ended on Synkronized for a wide scope of musical delight. A Funk Odyssey taps into various illustrious grooves of the Latin world, classic rock, and mainstream club culture, and Jamiroquai is tight and eager to make everyone shake their groove thing in their own light. The first single, "Little L," beams with Kajagoogoo-like synths while warping into a funk-driven hue of orchestral whirlpools, but Jamiroquai allows the band's extroverted and unattached personality to shine on the worldbeat-tinged "Corner of the Earth."
Lemongrassmusic present the new EP by German producer and musician Roland Voss. As the title suggests, the EP "Space Odyssey" takes the listener on a journey to the wonders of the universe. The overall impression is of some dreamlike atmosphere, where gravity has ceased to exist and weight has lost its meaning. Such is the sound that will make you examine the miracles and landscapes of the mind. The music on this EP is made without any beats, but unlike the music in the "Ambient Land" series you will find sounds of a more gloomy character in "Space Odyssey". The pictures and the atmosphere in the same titled movie by Stanley Kubrick have served as a source of inspiration for this EP. Roland Voss uses bits of sound and melody and slowly evolving pads and textures instead of traditional music and narrative techniques…
Ranestrane is a Rome 'based Italian group that does NOT fit into the classic RPI mode, as they opt for a more conventional methodology, staying away from the classic RPI ingredients of injecting such influential details as operatic vocals, pastoral acoustic tinges, wild changes of pace and mostly, the tried and true influence of canzone, Italian folk/popular music that gives it such character. Though they are listed here as RPI, the focus is more on Floydian soundscapes, elongated mood samples on which the soloists (Massimo Pomo the guitarist and the talented keysman Riccardo Romano)…
A key moment in the west coast years of Motown – and one of the most unique albums the label recorded during the early 70s! The group's got a mixture of soul, funk, and rock – served up by a hip lineup of younger longhairs who make for a real change from the class and poise of Detroit in the decade before! There's a freewheeling vibe here that takes inspiration from Sly & The Family Stone, but which is handled with some more acoustic elements and jazzier phrasing at times too – a really great Free Soul quality that's kept the album an under-discovered treasure for years. The whole thing feels more like a lost A&M gem from the Laurel Canyon scene.
Digitally re-mastered and expanded edition of this 1978 album from the Soul/Disco trio. Odyssey started life as the Lopez Singers, a female vocal group from Connecticut, in 1968. The original line up was the three Lopez sisters Carmen, Lillian and Louise, however Carmen left soon after and was replaced by Filipino singer and bassist Tony Reynolds. It was this line-up which went on to have worldwide success with the hit single 'Native New Yorker' in 1977, taken from their debut self-titled LP Odyssey. HOLLYWOOD PARTY TONIGHT was the follow up to their successful debut and was originally released in 1978.
Keyboard wizard Rick Wakeman, famous for his hugely successful rock career across the years, most notably with leading bands Yes and The Strawbs and for his sought-after collaborations with top artists of the day such as David Bowie, Cat Stevens and Black Sabbath, is proud to present here his debut album for Sony Classical: ‘Piano Odyssey’.
On the CD «Odyssey,» Barry Guy, Marilyn Crispell and Paul Lytton play several of Barry Guy¹s most beautiful compositions: «Harmos,» «Double Trouble,» and «Odyssey.» Barry Guy is a first class composer, even when we lose sight of this in face of his diverse work as an improvising bassist. In addition to works for contemporary orchestras and different chamber music ensembles (for example Kronos), he has written influential compositions for the London Jazz Composers Orchestra or the Barry Guy New Orchestra.
