The term "lost classic" is applied liberally and often erroneously to unreleased recordings that resurface years later in a maelstrom of hype. However, for the forgotten mod rock also-rans the Action, the term is not only justified, it is painfully bittersweet. On par with such classics of the era as The Who Sell Out or Ogden's Nut Gone Flake but more focused than either, the Action's Rolled Gold goes beyond "lost classic" – it is the influential masterpiece no one was ever allowed to hear. Despite being signed to Beatles producer George Martin's AIR label and benefiting from a strong club following, the Action never scored a chart hit. By the time they recorded these demo tracks in 1967, the band had grown weary of the musically limited mod scene, which was on its last legs. Guitarist Pete Watson had been replaced by Martin Stone, and the band had developed a more mature sound, one only hinted at on such previous cuts as "Twenty-Fourth Hour".

The Autumn Stone was the only double LP in the history of Immediate Records, and it came out as the company was entering its death throes, a desperate effort to cash in – or, to use a term that's become popular in the 21st century – "monetize" their library of tapes on the Small Faces…

Small Faces were an English rock band from East London. The group was founded in 1965 by members Steve Marriott, Ronnie Lane, Kenney Jones, and Jimmy Winston. The band is remembered as one of the most acclaimed and influential mod groups of the 1960s with memorable hit songs such as "Itchycoo Park", "Lazy Sunday", "All or Nothing", and "Tin Soldier", as well as their concept album Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake. They later evolved into one of the UK's most successful psychedelic bands until 1969. The Small Faces never disbanded; when Marriott left to form Humble Pie, the remaining three members recuited Ronnie Wood as guitarist, and Rod Stewart as their lead vocalist, both from The Jeff Beck Group, and carried on as Faces, except in North America, where this group's first album (and only their first album) was credited to Small Faces.

The frontman for British hitmakers the Small Faces and Humble Pie, singer/guitarist Steve Marriott was born January 30, 1947 in London; a successful child actor, he played the role of the Artful Dodger in the musical Oliver! as a teen, but by the mid-'60s, he was working in a local music shop. There he met bassist Ronnie Lane, agreeing to jam with his band the Pioneers; Marriott soon joined the group full-time and, after adopting a sound influenced by American R&B and a look inspired by Mod fashions, they rechristened themselves the Small Faces. Though best-known in the U.S. for their hit "Itchycoo Park," at home, the Small Faces enjoyed much greater success, reeling off a series of smashes including "All or Nothing," "My Mind's Eye," and "Lazy Sunday" as well as the 1968 classic LP Ogden's Nut Gone Flake. The chart popularity of "Lazy Sunday" rankled Marriott, however – he'd recorded the song as a joke and it was released despite his objections – and when the more thoughtful "The Universal" failed to crack the Top 20, his dissatisfaction only increased.

Digitally remastered 3CD set with tracks from all phases of the recording career of the man who fronted both Small Faces & Humble Pie. As a successful child actor, he played the Artful Dodger in the musical Oliver! as a teen. He met bassist Ronnie Lane and joined his band The Pioneers, who morphed into the greatest Mod band, The Small Faces. They reeled off a series of smash hits, including "All Or Nothing", "Itchycoo Park", "Tin Soldier" and "Lazy Sunday", as well as the 1968 classic LP 'Ogden's Nut Gone Flake'. A disillusioned Marriott left the band, recruited ex-Herd guitarist Peter Frampton to form the hard-rock combo Humble Pie. Their debut single "Natural Born Bugie," cracked the UK Top 5 and achieved success in the U.S. before they disbanded in 1975.He then took on other musical projects until his death in 1991 and some of those are included in this set.

Desire's Magic Theatre is a technicolour trip through the mind's eye of songstress / vocalist / guitarist Rosalie Cunningham, blending progressive complexity and cabaret romp into a compelling, multi-faceted rock 'n' roll show. Drawing inspiration from rock operas of the 60's and 70's, Sgt. Pepper's… and Bohemian Rhapsody, from The Pretty Things' S.F. Sorrow & The Small Faces' Ogden's Nut Gone Flake; musically, visually and lyrically, it touches folk, prog, psychedelic, gothic & classic rock.

"Live In London" features a full show Steve Marriott played with his band "Packet Of Three" at London's Camden Palace Theatre in 1985. Marriott revisits many hits from his back catalog including classic Small Faces songs…
Marriott is quite simply a rock n roll legend - as leader of the Small Faces and Humble Pie he is responsible for some of the all-time great songs created by any British musician. Marriott formed the Small Faces with Ronnie Lane in 1964 and they went on to become of the legendary British bands of their era with classic hit songs including "All Or Nothing", "Tin Soldier", "Lazy Sunday" and "Itchycoo Park" and the seminal album "Ogden's Nut Gone Flake".
The band split in 1969 and Marriott went on to form Humble Pie with Peter Frampton - creating one of the 70's first supergroups and enjoying success on both sides of the Atlantic. Sadly, Marriott died in a house fire in 1991 - but his legacy and loyal fanbase around the world continue on.

Somewhat overshadowed by Decca's rush-released From the Beginning, appearing just weeks before this 1967 LP, and often confused with their 1966 debut by virtue of its sharing an identical title, the Small Faces' eponymous debut for Immediate Records is one of the great British pop albums of the '60s. The Small Faces were breaking away from their R&B roots, dabbling with LSD and psychedelia, and tightening up their songwriting, emphasizing pop melodies in a way they never did on their debut. Sonically, The Small Faces doesn't get as far out as the abandoned Decca cuts that surfaced on From the Beginning - there may be some harpsichords but no outright psychedelia - but it is bright, colorful, and concentrated, its very brevity playing like snappy pop art…
