They called it The Paisley Underground. A 1980s, Southern California sound that mixed pure-pop sensibilities with psychedelic overtones, the term was coined by Michael Quercio, leader of one of that scene s biggest bands, The Three O Clock. The Three O Clock eventually signed to I.R.S. Records and even made an LP for Prince s Paisley Park imprint, but it is their early material that is not only adored, but which has never been properly compiled and re-introduced. Until now. The Hidden World Revealed is a 20-track collection from the years 1981-1986. In addition to hits from their tenure on Frontier Records like Jet Fighter and With A Cantaloupe Girlfriend, the CD features rare singles, demos and alternate takes/mixes. It helps tell the story of where the band started (as The Salvation Army) and what they would achieve recording for major labels and opening for bands like R.E.M. on national tours. It s quite a trip.
After 8 solo albums for Island Records culminating in the huge commercial success of 'Riptide', Robert Palmer found a new recoring home with EMI in 1988 with the release of 'Heavy Nova', but what hadn't changed was his very diverse range of material and styles, from self-penned rockers and ballads to covers of heavy funk and Tin Pan Alley. Heavy Nova includes the enduring smash hit single 'She Makes My Day'. 'Don't Explain' followed in 1990 and was also typically multi-faceted, presented in two parts: the first a rocking guitar-led set of songs, and the second half a soundtrack to an ambitious planned musical. 'Don't Explain' includes the hits 'Mercy Mercy Me/I Want You' and the collaboration with UB40, 'I'll Be Your Baby Tonight'. The ten bonus tracks include remixes and non-album single tracks.
"Oh Yeah" was the first single released after the release of 1977 and was their second Top 10 single, reaching number 6 in the UK singles chart. It is probably Ash's best-known song and one of the best known from the Brit-Pop period. It tells a tale of a "bitter-sweet teenage love story" and is very much a fan favourite. It's almost always somewhere in the live set too. It features backing vocals from singer Lisa Moorish.

The two began collaborating in 1979 and debuted with the single "I.T. Splash." After a steady ascent, their star rose significantly with the inclusion of their 1985 single "Oh Yeah" in John Hughes' Ferris Bueller's Day Off. They consolidated their subsequent international success with 1988's "The Race," a Top Ten hit in seven countries. Next came a move into film, while maintaining a six-album run of Top Ten placings on the Swiss charts that stretched into the late '90s. Although Yello's releases became less frequent in the new century, the duo became even more successful in their homeland…
