New York label Spring, and its Event and Posse subsidiaries, were very active from 1967 up to the late 80s. They specialised in the city’s black music and tried most variations, including soul, gospel, disco, show tunes, funk, harmony and later electro and rap.We have chosen the most soulful tracks that have not appeared on Kent CDs before, including six completed recordings that were previously unreleased. Two of these are ballads: a stunning version of Ray Godfrey’s song ‘I’m The Other Half Of You’ by Maxine Weldon and an unknown sweet soul number from one-time Tavares member Victor Tavares. Ray Godfrey himself features with ‘I Love You More Than Anything’, as covered by Joe Simon, and the unheard song ‘Hold On’, both previously unissued dance tracks. The Determinations’ opener ‘Save The Best For Me’ is another of Ray’s great songs, previously only on a rare LP. Other 70s dancers come from Ronnie Walker, Act I and the Joneses. More ballads are provided by Joe Simon, Leroy Randolph and, surprisingly, the Fatback Band, while uptempo 60s soul comes from Prince Harold, Little Eva Harris and Richard Barbary.

"Diana Ross & The Supremes Sing and Perform "Funny Girl"" is the 13th studio album released by Diana Ross & the Supremes on the Motown label, released in 1968. Berry Gordy had Diana Ross & the Supremes cover the songs from Barbra Streisand's Broadway musical Funny Girl original cast LP to tie-in with the September release of the feature-film version of the musical, also starring Streisand. The LP was not a success, and, with a Billboard 200 peak of 150, ranks as the lowest-charting of the Diana Ross-led Supremes albums. It was, however, praised by the composer, Jules Styne as one of the finest renditions of his score after the Broadway cast and movie soundtrack albums. Despite the commercial failure, fans celebrated the release, and the group performed a medley on the Ed Sullivan Show . Diana continued to perform "Don't Rain on My Parade" and "My Man" (equally associated with Fanny Brice), at her solo concerts throughout the 1970s.

The release of the present double CD is the culmination of a festive project to mark the anniversary year of 2020, in which the music world (and not only the music world) will be commemorating the 250th birthday of Ludwig van Beethoven. The year also marks 85 years since the birth of the renowned German composer Georg Katzer. The cellist Jörg Ulrich Krah had the idea that a contemporary colleague should express his thoughts on Beethoven in his own personal way, thereby creating an exciting bridge between Beethoven and the 21st century. Krah and Bernhard Parz began working on the cello sonatas as early as 2015 at a performers’ symposium, and it was through friendly contact with Katzer that in 2017 the latter composed his three “postscriptum zu B.” pieces, which were duly performed several times at concerts by the two musicians.
