This first Orange Wedge album was originally a private pressing of 500 copies. Nowadays it's a very rare album as the original pressing as you might guess. On the musical point of view this is pretty damn strong mix of guitar driven hard rock and psychedelic elements. The album includes seven songs which are all more or less great. "Death Comes Slowly" is the longest song of the album and it's a true killer and probably the ultimate highlight here. But the other songs do their job more than fine as well. If you're into the early 70's hard rock and heavy psych you don't want to miss this album. Do yourself a favour and check it out if you enjoy those genres. This one is an undiscovered and forgotten gem.
Second album from 1974 is more of the same but slightly more aggressive vocally, particularly on title track 'No One Left But Me' and with more guitar exhibitionism on 'Hungary Man'. 'Dream' is a pleasant instrumental. 'The Gate' provides a 10-minute stunning finale much in the West Coast-style. Excellent guitar-driven sound all over the album with a melodic psych/prog/rock feel. Occasional use of piano and acoustic guitars make for a varied sound. Lots of loud guitars with great solos. Comprehensive booklet with unseen photos. Digitally remastered.
The Chemical Brothers will release a new, fully expanded version of their classic third album 'Surrender" this Autumn! The deluxe reissue will feature the original 1999 album with previously unreleased ˜Secret Psychedelic Mixes"™ of Surrender album tracks, as well as a selection of the remixes from the time. There's also a DVD of restored promo videos and film of their legendary Glastonbury 2000 performance (still reckoned to have drawn the biggest ever crowd to the Pyramid Stage).
Psychedelic rock is a diverse style of rock music inspired, influenced, or representative of psychedelic culture, which is centred around perception-altering hallucinogenic drugs. Originating in the mid-1960s among British and American musicians, the sounds of psychedelic rock invokes three core effects of LSD: depersonalization, dechronicization, and dynamization; all of which detach the user from reality.
As a musical style, psychedelic rock attempts to replicate the effects of and enhance the mind-altering experiences of hallucinogenic drugs, incorporating new electronic sound effects and recording effects, extended solos, and improvisation.
