So much more than just the archetypal jam band, the Grateful Dead grew to become an artistic and cultural institution that existed entirely on their own terms. While the band initially came out of a psychedelic revolution in the Bay Area's musically and chemically exploratory mid-'60s, they quickly evolved from their acid rock beginnings, incorporating elements of Americana and Bakersfield country into gently majestic albums like 1970's American Beauty.

The Carter Family were pioneers of Country music but their influence was far reaching and impacted future performers of other genres such as folk, pop/rock and even Southern gospel. This 2CD set celebrates their early material (1927-1941) and includes Keep On The Sunnyside', 'Wabash Cannonball', 'Are You Lonesome Tonight?' title track 'Wildwood Flower' plus many more classic tracks.

Baritone Brian Mulligan's second solo recording features beloved songs of the early twentieth century. Mr. Mulligan writes: "I love the songs on this album. You don't hear them much anymore; they're usually considered to be 'old fashioned'. Most of these songs became incredibly popular through renditions by some of the greatest American baritones of all time, including Leonard Warren, John Charles Thomas and Nelson Eddy." Baritone Brian Mulligan is equally renowned as an interpreter of classic works by Verdi, Wagner and Strauss as well as of the most challenging twentieth and twenty-first century operas. His striking stage portrayals have taken him to leading opera houses throughout Europe and North America. He makes regular appearances with the leading US orchestras and in recital. His first recording, for Naxos, was Dominick Argento’s “The Andrée Expedition” and “From the Diary of Virginia Woolf”.

Enchanting, oppressive, calming, frightening… The forest exerts such an intense fascination over our senses and psyche that it has been a constant source of inspiration for artists. This collection of 50 tracks, entitled Forest Murmurs as a nod to the piece by Wagner, captures the evocative power of woodlands as beautifully rendered by the greatest composers. Featured artists include Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Thomas Beecham, Sharon Isbin, Aldo Ciccolini, Leif Ove Andsnes, Paavo Järvi, André Previn, Montserrat Caballé and many more.

December 21 is the first day of winter, and the Grateful Dead is helping welcome the season by treating fans to a winter solstice playlist. The band announced the new playlist on Instagram, which is made up of “over 16 hours of the best and longest versions of essential Dead tracks – roughly the same amount of darkness we’ll see during the Winter Solstice!”
