There is a lot of attention for happiness, but there is also a lot of confusion, about the concept and the nature of happiness. This installment in the spate of releases showcasing Philadelphia's Cameo Parkway label focuses on the Orlons, a three-woman, one-man quartet that blended soulful doo-wop and R&B in the manner of contemporaries like the Shirelles and the early Miracles. The Orlons offered up several playful, rhythm-driven dance songs ("The Wah-Watusi"), but they are at their best on uptempo pop like "Don't Hang Up" and dramatic ballads like "The Conservative", which let lead vocalist Rosetta Highwater shine. Remastered sound and fine liner notes make this release a treasure for fans of doo-wop and R&B from the early '60s.

Joan Jett has confirmed that new music is on the way. After teasing fans last week with a picture of herself in the studio and the promise of a “big announcement,” Jett revealed that she and the Blackhearts will release the new EP Mindsets on June 6. So far no other information about the EP is known, but it will be available for preorder on Friday, May 19. The EP will be the first new release from Joan Jett and the Blackhearts since 2022’s acoustic record, Changeup, which featured new versions of classic hits like “Bad Reputation” and “Crimson and Clover.” Their last album of all new material was 2014’s Unvarnished.

Viva Soul is the 1968 album by The Harvey Averne Dozen. Released on Atlantic, this album features covers of songs by The Beatles and The Mamas & The Papas plus original composition. Averne is still considered one of the best pianists and vibraharpists of our time, who brought in vocalist Kenny Seymour to help him and his band in these sessions. This is taken from the Japanese CD released in 2000.

The Mamas and the Papas were an American folk rock vocal group which recorded and performed from 1965 to 1968. The group was a defining force in the music scene of the counterculture of the 1960s. The group was composed of John Phillips, Denny Doherty, Cass Elliot, and Michelle Phillips (born Holly Gilliam). Their sound was based on vocal harmonies arranged by John Phillips, the songwriter, musician, and leader of the group who adapted folk to the new beat style of the early 1960s. The Mamas and the Papas released five studio albums and 17 singles over four years, six of which made the Billboard top 10 and have sold close to 40 million records worldwide. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 for its contributions to the music industry.
