Paul McCartney retreated from the spotlight of the Beatles by recording his first solo album at his home studio, performing nearly all of the instruments himself. Appropriately, McCartney has an endearingly ragged, homemade quality that makes even its filler – and there is quite a bit of filler – rather ingratiating. Only a handful of songs rank as full-fledged McCartney classics, but those songs – the light folk-pop of "That Would Be Something," the sweet, gentle "Every Night," the ramshackle Beatles leftover "Teddy Boy," and the staggering "Maybe I'm Amazed" (not coincidentally the only rocker on the album) – are full of all the easy melodic charm that is McCartney's trademark…

Certainly the greatest album I've heard in a long time, Paul McCartney's 'Back in the World' is a rock and roll party all the way through, featuring some of the best (mainly) McCartney penned Beatles songs mixed with some of his solo career highlights. His voice is still amazingly strong for his age, so much so that I prefer many of the songs on this album to their studio versions, and I really couldn't pay a higher compliment to this album than that. I was even more surprised when I saw Paul live at Earls Court, London the other week, in that I thought his voice may perhaps be a let down because this album features his best live recordings, but I was proved wrong as it sounded almost identical to how it does on this album.

The wait is over: With the 14th June release of One Hand Clapping, one of the most bootlegged live albums in musical history will finally receive a proper release. In August 1974, when Band on the Run was enjoying a seven-week consecutive #1 stint at the top of the UK album charts, Paul McCartney and Wings headed to Abbey Road Studios for the filming of a video documentary and possible live studio album – One Hand Clapping. Despite overwhelming demand for newly recorded material from the biggest band in the world at that time, One Hand Clapping was never officially released.

All the Best! is the second official compilation album of Paul McCartney music, after 1978's Wings Greatest. It was released in 1987 on Parlophone Records. The album contains tracks from the beginning of his solo career in 1970 up to (on British and Canadian editions) the newly recorded "Once Upon a Long Ago". The track inclusion and running order varies slightly between UK and US editions of All the Best! to reflect the popularity of particular songs in each country. Issued just as McCartney was beginning work on his next studio album, All the Best! was a commercial success in the UK, where it reached number 2 (having been kept off the top position by George Michael's debut solo album, Faith). In America, the compilation peaked at number 62, although it was eventually certified double platinum there.

When Paul McCartney returned to the studio a year after his wife Linda's death, he wanted to cut loose and have a good time. He gathered a bunch of friends, most notably guitarist David Gilmour, with the intention of cutting a collection of rock & roll oldies with minimal rehearsal and a handful of takes. On the surface, that makes Run Devil Run like Choba B CCCP, but there are subtle differences that make Devil a far superior effort. This time around, there's a real freshness to the performances. Gilmour, in particular, amazes, turning in some of his finest playing in years. Similarly, McCartney is invigorated, leaving behind his vocal schtick, laying back and rocking out with a set of fairly unfamiliar oldies.
