Paula Joye

Soprano Paula Sides and pianist Sergey Rybin have teamed up for this vibrant new recording of works by the French 20th Century composer Francis Poulenc. The centrepiece of the album is Poulenc's short solo opera La voix humaine ("The human voice"), based on the play of the same name by his friend Jean Cocteau.

Paula Frazer's unique, ethereal voice and beautiful songs are frequently described as dark country with an eclectic and lush mix of folk, blues, rock, and pop. She performs with her band Tarnation, which consists of singer-songwriter and guitarist Jacob Aranda, a talented artist in his own right, Sam Berman on drums, and David Cuetter (Big Still, That Hideous Strength) on pedal steel. Paula has a large fan base in the Bay area and performs regularly in venues like The Fillmore, The Chapel, Great American Music Hall, The Rite Spot, The Make Out Room, Amnesia, the Verdi Club, Starline Social Club and many other places.

Fanny Mendelssohn, a “sister of the Muses” has her mother would call her, was a 19th -century wife, mother and carer, but also made her own musical path and became of one the most important pianists of her time, composing over 400 pieces.
