The legendary Otis Spann gained renown as Muddy Waters’ pianist throughout the latter musician’s classic period of electric Chicago blues. Spann was also influential as a member of the Chess label’s house-band, which backed a roster of blues giants and big selling artists. However, Spann’s importance extended beyond his work as a sideman. He showed off his brilliance as a blues vocalist on a series of splendid recordings in a well-lived (though not extensive) solo career.
Reissue with the latest remastering. Features original cover artwork. Comes with a descripton in Japanese. A hell of a record from this wonderful pianist – partly because the set only features the bass of Clint Houston for accompaniment, and no other instrumentation at all! Clint's sound is wonderful – full, rich, and extremely rhythmic – so much so, there's no need for drums at all on the record, as Houston blocks things out and paces the record from the strings up – with a commanding majesty that really seems echoed by Brackeen's lines on piano – every bit as lyrical and fluid as ever, but maybe even more powerful too! The whole thing's beautiful – more commanding than you might expect, especially for Brackeen – and titles include "Freedent", "Solar", "New True Illusion", "Steps What Was", and "Search For Peace".
Really energetic live recording from 1977! Recorded live a mere 10 days after the release of their seminal 3rd long player, Rocket To Russia, this classic radio broadcast captures New York's (and arguably the world's) greatest punk band at the pinnacle of their fast, loud, dumb powers. Everything you could hope for from a live Ramones set!
Restless is a six-track release that includes single and extended versions, along with four other mixes. The Agoria remix and the Extended 12” mix feature alongside further remixes from xxxy, RAC and long-term collaborator Andrew Weatherall.
Robin Taylor is quite a prolific Danish guitarist, recording and performing both as a solo artist and also leader of Taylor’s Universe since the mid 80s. Each new release contains new compositions bringing some familiarity with things past and surprises of new things to come. For this outing, From Scratch, the Universe is Robin (electric and bass guitars, keyboards, percussion, etc.), Karsten Vogel (sax and bass clarinet), Claus Bøhling (electric guitar), Thomas Thor Viderøulstrup (miniMoog), and Klaus Thrane (drums). Guests include Finn Olafsson (electric guitar), Jakob Mygind (sax), Carsten Sindvald (sax), and the voices of Jytte Lindberg, Louise Nipper, and Jan Fischer…
This album, released by Angel Air under the title of 'New York Groove Plus' is a re-issue of the 'New York Connection' album. However, we are treated to three excellent bonus tracks including a cracking live version of 'You Spin Mr Round' as well as some informative sleeve notes. This album is splendid, evoking the spirit of the original band with soaring vocals and great guitar work. The cover versions are not bog-standard - they are careful re-interpretations of old classics re-worked and intelligently delivered.
