Two Way Family Favourites (or Family Favourites as it was also called) began life in 1945. It was conceived as a two way radio broadcast between the BBC in London and the British Forces Network in Germany, linking those serving overseas and their families back home. Later, it provided the same contact between ex-pats (mainly in Australia or Hong Kong) and relatives in the UK. The programme ran until 1984. At its peak it had a regular audience of 16 million and for Christmas specials it sometimes topped the 25 million mark. The tracks included here reflect the varied content of the show.

Favoring a supple, sophisticated approach quite distinct from the grittier sound of her Chicago rivals, soul diva Barbara Acklin cut some of the finest records to come out of the Windy City in the late '60s, most notably "Love Makes a Woman" and "Am I the Same Girl." She also cut her fair share of overbaked dross, which renders The Complete Barbara Acklin on Brunswick Records such a generous but frustrating listen. Assembling all five of the LPs Acklin cut for Brunswick between 1968 and 1973 - an output totaling 45 songs - the set offers the kind of all-inclusive, respectful treatment rarely afforded to artists of Acklin's limited commercial stature, but given the abundance of inferior material, listeners without completist impulses will be far better served by more focused best-of collections.

Sabbath and Dio were dealing with a dwindling fan base, unsuccessful albums, and a longstanding creative rut when they decided to reunite the Mob Rules lineup. In a perfect world, they would have created a monster of an album and shot back into the limelight with a vengeance…
