Recorded the same two days as Moods, Vol. 1, this trio/quartet outing by guitarist Philip Catherine, flügelhornist Tom Harrell, bassist Hein Van DeGeyn, and (on two of the ten songs) keyboardist Michel Herr has a bit more energy than the first volume and more variations in tempos and moods. All of the music except for Charles Mariano's "Pink Lady" and the second take of "A Time for Love" are originals by group members. The attractive group sound, which often has the three main musicians functioning as equals, is a major plus throughout this generally successful set. ~ AllMusic Review by Scott Yanow

Jean-Luc Ponty almost single-handedly brought the violin into the modern jazz era. Open Strings, recorded in 1971, presents Ponty at his pre-fusion best: after working together for over a year, this quintet of world-renowned musicians plays on the creative edge, notably German pianist Joachim Kühn who displays his technical mastery, sense of humour and sheer inventiveness. The three parts of Flipping form a triptych of connected pieces with ever-changing tempos, moods and modes, as the musicians exchange places and combinations.

With two albums thus far (Lifelover und Tell Her), Veronika Harcsa and Bálint Gyémánt have fascinated press and audiences as a duo since 2014. “Harcsa is an amazingly versatile musician, a brilliant vocalist and gifted entertainer in the best sense,” states allaboutjazz.com, and public radio MDR adjudges: “Harcsa’s voice oscillates in many different colors. […] At times she sounds like the jazzy sister of Alanis Morissette and in the next moment she turns into a spherical siren.”
