Blues at Sunset is a Blues album by Albert King, recorded live at Wattstax (August 20, 1972) and at the Montreux Jazz Festival (July 1, 1973), and released in 1973. Additional material recorded at the 1973 Montreux festival would be released in his later albums Montreux Festival and Blues At Sunrise.

If these 47 songs on three CDs plus a DVD boasting a new 75-minute documentary and six performances from the Montreux Jazz Festival prove anything, it's that Guy is one of the most dynamic, diverse, expressionistic, and emotional guitarists–in any genre. The set neatly examines the 70-year-old Chicago blues legend's half-century career, starting with a ragged but soulful "The Way You Been Treating Me" cut in 1957 at a radio station in Guy's native Louisiana that finds him developing his searing, exploratory style. A year later, he's in Chicago working with tunesmith Willie Dixon, and the rest is history (chronicled in Anthony DeCurtis's excellent lines notes) that leads from the glory days of Chess Records to Guy's early breakout recordings for Vanguard to his modern-day mastery. The most recent recordings often find him working with acolytes: Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Keb' Mo', Jonny Lang, Bonnie Raitt, Keith Richards, and John Mayer.

Formed in San Francisco in 1965, the band were contemporaries of local acts such as Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead, achieving huge popularity in the Bay Area of California thanks to their imaginative psychedelic rock which drew on jazz, classical and folk influences. Their live performances were legendary thanks to their extended improvisational ability and the interplay of John Cipollina and Gary Duncan's guitar playing, ably backed by David Freiberg (bass) and Greg Elmore (drums).In the late 1960s their musical approach influenced many emerging artists both in the USA and Europe (with the British band Man being huge admirers) thanks to their 1968 self-titled debut and the classic 'Happy Trails' album released a year later. In 1969 the band augmented their line-up with the arrival of Dino Valenti (guitar, vocals) and renowned British keyboard player Nicky Hopkins.
