Havana, Cuba. 1959. A tropical island paradise is on the brink of revolution. Dès juin 1940, alors que l’armée allemande entre dans Paris, des garçons de 14 à 17 ans répondent à l’appel du Général de Gaulle et rejoignent l’Angleterre. Ces jeunes, appelés "les Cadets de la France libre" arrivent du monde entier (Amériques, Madagascar, Liban, Afrique du Nord, etc.) et évidemment de France (surtout de Bretagne) pour combattre le nazisme. Ils ont bravé mille dangers pour parvenir à rejoindre Londres, parfois sans l’accord de leur famille. Face à l’arrivée massive de ces "galopins", certes pleins de fougue et de bonne volonté mais trop jeunes pour intégrer l’armée, le chef de la France libre ne sait que faire. De Gaulle décide alors de leur donner une véritable formation d’officiers, à la hauteur de la prestigieuse école Saint-Cyr, alors qu’on manquait d’encadrement qualifié sur le terrain…

Le joueur/The Gambler (1958)

Le Joueur is French director Claude Autant-Lara's spin on the oft-filmed Dostoyevsky novel -The Gambler. Set in 19th century Baden-Baden, the film details the trials and tribulations of several chronic gamblers, foremost among them young Alevei (Gerard Philipe). In love with Pauline (Liselotte Pulver), the daughter of nearly-impoverished general Zagoriensky (Bernard Blier), Alevei tries to save Pauline from penury by instructing her in the ways of the gaming tables. Unfortunately, Alevei is too late to prevent Pauline from destroying herself, both figuratively and literally. The best-known cinemadaptation of the Dostoyevsky original was 1949's The Great Sinner, starring Gregory Peck and Ava Gardner.

After five years in prison, Tony le Stéphanois meets his dearest friends Jo and the Italian Mario Ferrati and they invite Tony to steal a couple of jewels from the show-window of the famous jewelry Mappin & Webb Ltd, but he declines. Tony finds his former girlfriend Mado, who became the lover of the gangster owner of the night-club L' Âge d' Or Louis Grutter, and he humiliates her, beating on her back for being unfaithful. Then he calls Jo and Mario and proposes a burglary of the safe of the jewelry. They invite the Italian specialist in safes and elegant wolf Cesar to join their team and they plot a perfect heist. They are successful in their plan, but the Don Juan Cesar makes things go wrong when he gives a valuable ring to his mistress.

The movie tells the story of Vincent (Aurelien Recoing), a middle-class family man recently fired from his drab, middle-management job. Unable to tell his family about his firing, Vincent spends his workdays driving around the French countryside –"business trips" he tells his wife – keeping intact the reassuring routine of going to work and coming home to his wife and kids. As his family grows suspicious of his evasive behavior, Vincent is forced to spin a new tale, pretending to get a job working for the U.N. In a bid to keep the money coming in, he recruits old friends to invest in an imaginary emerging-markets investment scheme. Vincent also falls in with Jean-Michel (Serge Livrozet), a black market dealer whose ignominious past serves as an ominous warning for Vincent's present course. Despite his efforts to maintain an undisturbed surface, Vincent's wife begins to suspect something amiss. As the lies pile up and the questions from his family mount, Vincent loses control of his fragile double life, leading to a poignant conclusion.

Getting drunk, Felipe unwittingly helps her date wealthy general store owner Mazel's handsome, womanizing son, dashing air force pilot Jacques, who gives her a motorbike ride home, make love and get her pregnant. Shortly after, both men are called for military service. On leave, Felipe finds out the truth and still proposes. Jacques is reported missing in action, his family refuses to recognize the baby, so Pascal sends Patricia with it to his outcast sister.
