'Pushin' Too Hard' is a 94-track celebration of 1960s garage punk, a retrospectively named genre first compiled on Lenny Kaye's seminal 1972 collection 'Nuggets'. This is raw, exciting music with tons of attitude - fuzz guitars, swirling organs, wailing harmonicas, thumping drums and tough vocals are plentiful. In the mid 1960s, teenage rock 'n' roll groups proliferated throughout the USA, often inspired by 'British Invasion' bands such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and The Yardbirds as well as US styles including surf, blues and folk rock. Most towns and cities had local scenes revolving around dance parties, clubs and 'battle of the bands' contests and many of the bands here were regional royalty but never broke nationally. Key bands featured include The Seeds, The Sonics, The Standells, The Shadows Of Knight, The Thirteenth Floor Elevators, Love, The Electric Prunes, Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band, We The People and ? & The Mysterians. There are national US Billboard Hot 100 hits from Sam The Sham & The Pharaohs - 'Wooly Bully' (#2), The Strangeloves - 'I Want Candy' (#11), The Castaways - 'Liar, Liar' (#12), The Beau Brummels - 'Just A Little' (#15), The McCoys - 'Fever' (#7), The Bobby Fuller Four - 'I Fought The Law' (#9), Paul Revere & The Raiders - 'Just Like Me' (#11), The Barbarians - 'Are You A Boy Or Are You A Girl' (#55), Love - 'My Little Red Book' (#54), The Knickerbockers - 'One Track Mind' (#46) and The Seeds - 'Pushin' Too Hard' (#36) presented here in a longer unedited version. Rarities from The Blue Beats, The Dirty Wurds, The Apparitions, The Bedlam Four and The Jackals are released here on CD for the first time while many other tracks have never been released in the UK before.

Lenny Kaye started the mania for collecting overlooked garage punk classics with his superlative 1972 compilation Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era, and more than four decades later, garage rock collectors are still pouring out collections of rare vinyl singles documenting snarky teens bashing out rock & roll in their parents' basements or garages in the mid-'60s. One can't help but wonder if the well will ever run dry on such things, and Tim Warren, Crypt Records founder and the man behind the outstanding Back from the Grave series, seems to be suggesting that vintage garage material is becoming a dwindling resource in the title of 2015's Last of the Garage Punk Unknowns, Vols. 1-2.

One of the coolest collections we've heard from Keb Darge in years – not the funk and soul he first gave us when he started putting compilations together, nor the rockabilly and R&B from more recent years – and instead a fantastic array of rare late 60s garage rock and freaky fuzz singles! The set's tone in collaboration with Cut Chemist – another DJ we'd never expect to know this music so well – and together, the pair turn their talent for rare record digging to an arena that never seems to get old – the under-underground of the pre-hippy years, with a stunning selection of tracks by artists who worked in the deep shadows beneath bigger acts like Count Five, The Seeds, or Standells.

A Full Spoon of Seedy Blues is the fourth album by the American garage rock band, the Seeds, credited to the Sky Saxon Blues Band, and released on GNP Crescendo in November 1967.
With liner notes by Muddy Waters, a cover of Water's tune "Plain Spoken," and two titles written by Luther "Guitar Jr." Johnson, the trend-conscious Sky Saxon takes his Seeds into a world far removed from punk and garage rock. This may be the only album that doesn't contain a variation of the "Pushin' Too Hard" riff, and that might not be a good thing. Six minutes and four seconds of Sky Saxon's "Cry Wolf" is too long for blues this lightweight. Saxon plays a cool harp, but his Sam the Sham-style vocals are not going to cause Buddy Guy any sleepless nights, nor would George Guy find them amusing…

Teenage Shutdown: Jump, Jive and Harmonize, subtitled 'Pounding, Pulverizing, All-Out Punk Dance Ravers,' was the very first Teenage Shutdown collection to be compiled by Crypt Records' Tim Warren from mid-'60s garage rock/garage punk singles owned by collector Mike 'Moptop' Markesich. As with the other compilations in this series, this one is lovingly prepared and features good mastering. There aren't too many band photos to be found in the foldout insert booklet; there are colorful scans of the single labels, but only a few black-and-white photos of the groups involved. The liner notes - penned by Markesich - go into a little bit of detail about the groups involved, many of which are more well-known, overall, than most of the groups which can be found included on CDs in this series…

Emerging from the glut of Southern Californian rock groups in the mid-'60s, Things to Come formed in 1966. Their original lineup included lead singer Steve Runolfsson, drummer Russ Kunkel (who would go on to become a top sessionman), and bassist Bryan Garofalo (also a future sessionman and a member of Glenn Frey's band since 1982). The group cut only three singles in their brief lifetime. This album is astounding Stones/Them influenced garage and dark psych, recorded 1965-'67. The set includes the impossibly rare 45 of "Sweetgina" b/w "Speak Of The Devil" as well as other lost, unreleased masterpieces.
