Comprehensive 5CD clamshell box set of pioneering all-female rock band The Runaways, bringing together all five of their studio albums in one package for the first time. CD1 features the band's debut album 'The Runaways', released in June 1976, containing the single 'Cherry Bomb' which would become the band's signature track and be voted No. 52 in VH1's 100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs list. CD2 contains the band's sophomore album 'Queens Of Noise', released in January 1977, which found their musical skills honed and the volume raised. Producer and engineer Earle Hankey, who had previously worked with The Beach Boys, Sparks and Elton John, found a sound that helped 'Take It Or Leave It', 'Neon Angels On the Road to Ruin' and 'Love Playin' With Fire' become fan favourites.

Released in conjunction with the silver screen dramatization of the Runaways’ saga, Hip-O Select’s The Mercury Albums Anthology rounds up the group’s four albums - 1976’s The Runaways, plus Live in Japan, Queens of Noise, and Waitin’ for the Night, all released in 1977– in a slick two-disc set. Anybody won over to the Runaways via the charms or Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning will find this to be much too much – really, they’ll be satiated by a quick download of “Cherry Bomb” – as this is intended for connoisseurs of sleaze and those under the impression that the female foursome were pioneers not at all under the skeevy thumb of Kim Fowley. Both groups may find what’s contained on Mercury Albums Anthology somewhat underwhelming: the Runaways plodded as much as the plundered, hammering out three-chord riffs that had more to do with frizzy-haired metal than any kind of proto-punk. Live, they had a modicum of energy, as evidenced by Live in Japan, but they wound up being highly polished and packaged in the studio, with Fowley steering them ever so slightly toward sticky, disposable bubblegum. Joan Jett eventually wound up digging in her heels, asserting control on Waitin’ for the Night, but by then, the band was straining under Fowley’s direction, and the end was near. All this is, of course, apparent on this de facto complete recordings – they knocked out another record after leaving Mercury – but the lasting impression of this double-disc set is that the Runaways’ myth is always better than their music.

Christine & The Queens is the alt-moniker of French singer/songwriter/actress Heloise Letissier and her debut album „Chaleur Humaine“ ('Human Heat') is an impressive first outing in the Listening World. Ms. Letissier makes a pretty noise; an approachable and tuneful take on electro-pop which might also appeal to admirers of Imogen Heap. There are eleven songs in the set, some sung in her native tongue and others in English, so a dictionary comes in handy here and there. The album has been released as self-titled (Christine and the Queens) in the United States.

Audacious fighters, indomitable queens, and evil witches: On their debut CD, soprano Margriet Buchberger and the musicians of Il Giratempo put Handel’s strongest and most mesmerizing women centre stage - where they rightfully belong. The „wild“ women in Georg Friedrich Handel’s operas are truly queens of their own destiny.

A customary way for women to make their presence felt in rock music, to adapt the title of Haim’s album Women in Music Pt III, has been to make as loud a racket as possible. Blaring guitars, shouted vocals, walloped drums: stand up as “queens of noise”, as all-woman hard-rockers The Runaways put it in a 1977 song. Drown out the misogynists.

British Singer/songwriter Matt Mitchell (PRIDE/FURYON/COLOUR OF NOISE) has recently had the chance to embark on the journey of recording his long awaited debut solo record. Matt started out singing and writing songs in his late teens learning his craft in several bands early on, he then found himself as the voice of AOR band PRIDE who released two albums in the mid 2000’s on EMI Toshiba/Pointmusic. FURYON was Matt's next project. Formed out of the demise of PRIDE a heavier style evolved, with much love and praise from The likes of CLASSIC ROCK & METAL HAMMER magazines.
