Pilot survey results on military retirees offer the Department of Defense (DoD) useful information on retirees' health care status, enrollment in civilian health care plans, and reliance on Tricare, the DoD sponsored health insurance. Higher premiums for civilian health insurance may be increasing retirees' reliance on Tricare, which in turn may be causing DoD health care spending costs to rise.

The first phase of this study used a variety of approaches to assess the health care needs of California prisoners upon their release, the geographic distribution of state prisoners who return to local communities, and the health care services that are available in these communities to provide policymakers with a picture of communities' capacity to meet the needs of parolees and other underserved populations.

This study tracks the establishment of a single hospitalbased integrative medicine center. Although some factors clearly worked in favor of the center, the hospital had few models to guide it and no experience in creating such a clinic. Thus, it made many decisions in the areas of administration, finance, and legal issues that created barriers to the center's success, and the center was ultimately closed.
