The single Sonatensatz (Scherzo) was not published till after Brahms’ death. The piece is originally for violin and piano and formed the third movement of a full length four movement sonata by three different composers, Schumann, Dietrich his student, and the youthful Brahms. This is the only movement still regularly performed. It certainly makes a strong, effective recital piece. More than twenty years separate the two cello sonatas. While the first, in E minor is generally rather sombre, often very low-lying on the cello and serious in its Bachian working-out, the second, in F major is full of turbulent, confident, even heroic qualities.

For the last ten years or so, there has been a gratifying renewal of interest in the eminent Russian composer Nikolai Myaskovsky, whose career spanned the late Romantic to early Modern periods.

Raphaël, auteur-compositeur-interprète et producteur, n'a que 24 ans, en 2000, lorsqu'il sort son premier album Hôtel de l'Univers. Raphaël Haroche est né à Paris, d'un père russe et d'une mère argentine. Tout petit, dès cinq ans, il apprend le piano et la guitare et à l'adolescence commence à écrire et composer. Son bac en poche, Raphaël s'inscrit en hypokhâgne, y reste trois jours et file à la fac de Droit. Influencé par Noir Désir, David Bowie ou Jacques Brel, Raphaël décide d'arrêter ses études et de se consacrer à sa passion qu'est la musique. Il rencontre alors Caroline Manset, (la fille du chanteur Gérard Manset), qui devient son manager. Le duo se met au travail pour mettre en forme ce qui deviendra son premier album. Avec sa première maquette sous le bras, Raphaël va directement voir EMI, qui est séduit par le projet et qui le signe, dans la foulée.
