Max Richter’s landmark 8.5 hour work SLEEP in an abrdiged 90 min. version. The SLEEP project explores new ways for music and consciousness to interact, a “personal lullaby for a frenetic world…a manifesto for a slower pace of existence.”
John Baldwin was a lay clerk at St George’s Chapel, Windsor in 1575 and became a Gentleman of the Chapel Royal in 1598. The so-called ‘Baldwin Partbooks’, held at Christ Church, Oxford, were his creation – a very personal collection, representing his individual tastes and interests from a wealth of English and Continental polyphony and consort music.
As in their previous collaboration, an exploration of the similarly conceived partbooks of Robert Dow, the Marian Consort and Rose Consort of Viols have kept faith with Baldwin’s own intentions, bringing to light some of the rarer gems preserved by this great advocate and music-lover and providing the listener with ‘such sweete musicke: as dothe much delite yeelde’.
In February, 2014, Robert Maloschik decided to recreate "Devil's Masquerade" (1971), the only official album release of the legendary group Syrius, to be recorded and re-arranged and conceived for jazz by a band formed of five young Hungarian jazz musicans, the Syrius Legacy, who are the best and most demanded players on their respective instruments of their age. 18 months and 15 performances later, in early September 2015. their debut album, titled "The Devil's Masquerade Reloaded" was finished. The strong cohesion of the group derives from their admiration of the old Syrius themes, their respect for Mihaly Raduly and the constant support from Mr. Maloschik.
Rantala has recorded this solo piano set of Lennon tunes as a tribute to his own childhood hero, to commemorate what would have been the 75th anniversary of Lennon's birth on 9th October 2015. Using the Steinway D concert grand piano employed by classical legend Alfred Brendel with the Berlin Philharmonic (with even the piano tuner getting a sleeve credit), this is a session of brooding textures, space, touch and nuance. Rantala has mostly approached the project using a pared-down idiom, and the results are a late-night liturgy of memories and love for the music.
