Simply Red will release a brand new studio album, Time, in May. The 12-track record is the band’s first in four years and was recorded with longtime producer Andy Wright. Formats including limited red vinyl (exclusive to the band’s shop) and a deluxe CD edition which offers three bonus tracks performed live recently at BBC Radio 2’s Piano Room (including a cover of Paul McCartney & Wings‘ ‘My Love’).
A hell of a cooker from bassist Red Mitchell - a set that's got a sound that's way more mature and modern than you might guess from the image on the cover! Red's at the helm of a hip combo that also features sharp tenor from Zoot Sims and beautiful work on valve trombone from Bob Brookmeyer - working here at that cool compressed height of his 50s style we love so much. Conte Candoli's in the group on trumpet, giving things a surprising sort of bite - and rhythm is completed by Claude Williamson on piano and Stan Levey on drums - players who can be bold one minute, and carefully quiet the next.
There's truly enough warmth and good vibes to go around on Red Hot Chili Peppers' 12th full-length, Unlimited Love. Not only did the band re-form their seminal lineup, welcoming guitarist John Frusciante back into the fold after a decade-long absence, but they also reunited with longtime production guru Rick Rubin, who was swapped out for Danger Mouse on their last album, 2016's The Getaway. With the gang back together, there's a palpable joy born from the energy of four buddies just having fun in the studio.
Blood Red Throne issued tenth full-length studio album Imperial Congregation on October 8th, 2021 through Nuclear Blast Records. Guitarist Daniel “Død” Olaisen commented: “Blood Red Throne still delivers quality death metal, but even after writing the first song, we felt that we were on to something new this time. Of course, it’s still death metal, but some of the riffs and arrangements introduce something new for us at least. Ten bad ass tracks wrapped in a killer production, we really can’t wait to show our old fans as well as gaining new ones. Death metal will never die and we will keep going til the end!” Cover artwork was created by Marcelo Vasco. The image displays a flock of old, religious men as they meet in secrecy to design the laws of lower society. “Many of our lyrics deal with our skepticism of religion, and of mankind in general. Be free or be dead,” said Olaisen. “Two gigantic skeletons tower over the men of worship as they dictate human fate by candlelight.”
Little is known about Léonin beyond the fact that he seems to have had a bent for composing erotic poetry. The somewhat unhelpfully named 'Anonymous IV', a monk from Bury St Edmunds, tells us of two 'masters'—Leoninus and Perotinus—who dominated the twelfth-century musical world. Both were reputedly based at Notre Dame in Paris, and Leoninus was responsible for the Magnus liber organi, the 'Big Book of organum' (an organum being a polyphonic setting of plainchant), which is widely regarded as the single greatest achievement in the development of early polyphony.
ASTERIA, RED ZONE PLANET's debut album released as a preview on March 29, 2023 on all digital streaming platforms, is now available on CD in a luxury Digipak package and internal booklet with lyrics and photos. The RZP project is made up of musicians who have always been contaminated by the ROCKETS universe: founding members in 2002 of the first official tribute band, over the years some of them have also been able to boast collaborations with Little Gerard L'Her, Fabrice Quagliotti (who also donated a small but precious gem in a song on this album) and the Rockets themselves. ASTERIA is a concept album of 8 songs of pure SPACE ROCK, characterized by all those sounds, atmospheres and spatial themes that we had the opportunity to appreciate, between the end of the 70s and the beginning of the 80s, mainly thanks to the legendary silver band. A highly evocative album - but well placed in the present - of an era in which science fiction could be felt in every corner of television and radio.
