Lourdes Hernández González, known professionally as Russian Red, is a Spanish indie and folk singer-songwriter. Known by many as the "Spanish Feist", in reference to the Canadian singer-songwriter who inspires her in many of her attitudes on the microphone, Hernández—who writes and sings all of her compositions in English—states that she sings in that language instinctively because she has always listened to music in English.

Joe Venuti and Eddie Lang cut different figures. Joe was combative, a joker and man about town. Eddie was quiet, considerate and careful with money. They were born in Philadephia - Eddie in 1902, Joe in 1903 - to Italian immigrant parents. Both studied the violin. Their partnership began in their mid teens when Eddie joined Joe's newly-formed band as a guitarist. Soon they were performing as a duo. Eddie made the early running. In 1919 he joined Charlie Kerr's Orchestra as a violinist, switching to banjo.

Unlike other labels subjected to exhaustive multi-disc retrospectives like this whopping ten-disc Revolutions in Sound: Warner Bros. Records – The First Fifty Years, Warner Brothers never embodied a scene or sound: they've always embodied what a major label should be – a dominant force that chronicles and dictates the sound of the mainstream. Coming out at the tail-end of 2008, when the influence of major labels is on a slow steady decline, Revolutions in Sound can be seen as a portrait of a time that's beginning to recede into the past: a time when there was such a thing as mass entertainment, when the pop audience all shared a common bond of hit records they either loved or rallied against. Perhaps the greatest things about this monumental box set is that it captures that colossus while also illustrating that for a while, majors did take risks. Of course, Warner was the riskiest of all the majors, never held back by an anti-rock & roll sourpuss like Mitch Miller, who struggled to keep CBS out of the tumult of the '60s (this with no less than Bob Dylan as the label's flagship rock artist). Instead, Warner embraced the underground, recording some of the strangest to shake out of the '60s, and that adventure fits a label that turned to rock & roll to help establish themselves as a real player at the turn of the '60s.

Recorded in New York’s Record Plant under the guidance of cult producers Jimmy Curtiss and Steve Kanyon (best-known for their involvement with popsike favourites the Hobbits and the New Hobbits), this Italian-American psych rarity originally appeared in 1970 and has barely been heard since. A mixture of covers of songs by Cream, Donovan, the Band and Tim Hardin and eerie originals such as the hard acid-rock title track, it’s presented here complete with an ultra-rare bonus track taken from their sole 45.

In 2017, Phish performed "The Baker's Dozen," a milestone 13-show run at Madison Square Garden held over 17 nights. During the run, the band performed 26 unique sets featuring a grand total of 237 songs with not one repeated. The Baker's Dozen earned accolades from a wide array of national publications, including a nod from Rolling Stone's David Fricke in his "Year In Rock 2017" wrap-up. "What I saw," wrote The New York Times' Ben Ratliff, " was a purposeful band in energetic form, better than I've seen and heard recently, more willing to let songs assume their own proportions, and going far into it's own catalog." The Baker's Dozen 3-CD (with 13 tracks hand-picked by the band) has been fully remixed by legendary engineer Elliot Scheiner.

On the debut album from New York New School vocalist Jose James, he makes a move toward a new era of jazz vocals. While jazz elements have been making their way into underground hip-hop for years, James turns the other direction. He sings contemporary jazz with a strong sense of respect for the classics, but quietly puts hip-hop instrumentation behind his vocals, and multi-tracks himself for accentuation. James is in the midst of creating an entirely modern approach to jazz singing here over a set of originals with a few covers thrown in (the highlight being Rahsaan Roland Kirk's "Spirits Up Above").

One of the towering figures of 20th century's music, Alabama-born pianist and organist Herman "Sun Ra" Blount (1914) became the cosmic musician par excellence. Despite dressing in extraterrestrial costumes (but inspired by the pharaohs of ancient Egypt) and despite living inside a self-crafted sci-fi mythology (he always maintained that he was from Saturn, and no biographer conclusively proved his birth date) and despite littering his music with lyrics inspired to a self-penned spiritual philosophy (he never engaged in sexual relationships apparently because he considered himself an angel), Sun Ra created one of the most original styles of music thanks to a chronic disrespect for both established dogmas and trendy movements.

Originally released in August 1990, this is the first ever expanded re-issue of Marc Almond’s opulent sixth studio album. “Enchanted” is saturated in Marc’s signature poetic romanticism and contains some of his finest lyric writing in songs as various as the epic ‘Madame De La Luna’, ‘Death’s Diary’ and ‘Orpheus In Red Velvet’. The album’s lush lead single, ‘A Lover Spurned’, is a classic Almond power ballad of unrequited love with an equally thrilling production by Stephen Hague, employing a melodramatically thunderous 48-piece orchestra.
