This DVD from the MuchMusic archives was shot in 1990 at Spectrum in Montreal and captures Gowan (Ex: STYX) at the peak of his career as a solo artist. Additional material includes a bootleg version of "Victory," a live video for "City of the Angels," and an interview with Much Music's Denise Donlon.

One of the better British progressive bands of the early '70s, the Strawbs differed from their more successful compatriots – the Moody Blues, King Crimson, Pink Floyd – principally in that their sound originated in English folk music rather than rock. Founded in 1967 as a bluegrass-based trio called the Strawberry Hill Boys by singer/guitarist Dave Cousins, the group at that time consisted of Cousins, guitarist/singer Tony Hooper, and mandolinist Arthur Phillips, who was replaced in 1968 by Ron Chesterman on bass.

Slow Ride: Live in Concert gives us undistilled Foghat, recorded and filmed live over two months in Texas in 1999, shortly before frontman Dave Peverett’s premature death at the age of 56. The power and drive of these classic songs come ringing through and are a celebration of Foghat’s vision and talent, many years since the band exploded onto the world in 1970.

Long before he had heard the whole of Mozart’s C Major Piano Concerto, Finnish jazz pianist Iiro Rantala had known the andante. “The second movement,” he explains, “is on the soundtrack to the James Bond Film ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’. It’s the scene where they show you the underwater city – and it’s my absolute favourite Bond film.”
