Robert Cray That's What I Heard

"That's What I Heard" is the title of Robert Cray's new album for 2020. The US-American blues guitarist and singer and five-time Grammy winner presents the successor of "Robert Cray & Hi Rhythm" from 2017.

Robert Cray has been bridging the lines between blues, soul and R&B for the past four decades, with five Grammy wins and over 20 acclaimed albums. His latest album, "That's What I Heard", was recorded at the iconic Capitol Records studios and produced by Steve Jordan (Sheryl Crow, Josh Groban, Keith Richards, Boz Scaggs). The music is a varied sonic blend of blues, soul, boogaloo and gospel. Guest artists include Ray Parker Jr and Steve Perry.

CD 1 opens with Aretha Franklin’s signature ‘Respect’, before The Supremes and Stevie Wonder light up the set with ‘You Can’t Hurry Love’ and ‘Uptight’. Martha Reeves & The Vandellas bring pure energy with ‘Dancing In The Street’, Bob & Earl deliver irresistible groove on ‘Harlem Shuffle’. CD 2 begins two enduring classics:- Ben E. King with ‘Stand By Me’ Percy Sledge with ‘When A Man Loves A Woman’, which were both huge hits again in the late ‘80s. CD 3 kicks off with Ike & Tina Turner’s towering ‘River Deep – Mountain High’, followed by Wilson Pickett’s ‘Land Of 1000 Dances’ and Arthur Conley’s homage to ‘Sweet Soul Music’. CD 4 closes collection with a run of unforgettable moments – and massive hits - opening The Supremes’ first #1 ‘Baby Love’, the Four Tops’ ‘I Can’t Help Myself’ The Temptations ‘Get Ready’.

In the Midnight Hour is a song originally performed by Wilson Pickett and released on his album, also appearing on the album The Exciting Wilson Pickett. Sittin On The Dock of the Bay is a song co-written by soul singer Otis Redding and guitarist Steve Cropper. It was recorded by Redding twice, including once just days before his death in a plane crash.What Becomes of the Brokenhearted is a hit single recorded by Jimmy Ruffin and released on Motown Records Soul label in the summer. It is a ballad, with lead singer Jimmy Ruffin recalling the pain that befalls the brokenhearted.
