This release, part of harmonia mundi's series celebrating the Beethoven year, pairs the composer's iconic and much-loved Symphony No.5 with the far less well-known Symphony In 17 Parts by Francois-Joseph Gossec. The dramatic power and intensity of Beethoven stands in sharp contrast to to the cheerful and gallant music of Gossec. Les Siècles, led by François-Xavier Roth, apply their usual virtuosity and keen insight to both works in performances that are sure to delight.

The viol consort Les Escapades takes the listener on a journey through a wondrous night with its dreams and visions. In the mild light of the moon, thoughts fly and we meet dream creatures and fairies in the nocturnal entourage from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. Music from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Impressionist periods will be heard, some of which the ensemble has arranged especially for itself. For example, Gabriel Faure's famous "Apres un rIve" or Claude Debussy's "RIverie" are performed in a completely new and unusual sound, played on the delicate gut strings of a baroque viol consort.

Love songs with a dance rhythm, the Liebeslieder Walzer express in turn desire, nostalgia, sorrow and amusement in the dialogue of hearts. To this emblematic collection, Léo Warynski joins several jewels of Brahmsian vocal art, where the colors of his Metaboles shine, accompanied here by pianists Yoan Héreau and Edoardo Torbianelli who complete the program with a selection of waltzes and Hungarian dances.
