This is the fourth and final installment in Danacord's rather undistinguished set of Glass symphonies from Bulgaria. The music is average and middle of the road true, but just listen to Launy Grondahl's fiery account of the Sinfonia Svastica on a historical Danacord reissue and you realize that Todorov is not a patch on his predecessor. However his is the only version of the First Symphony available and it is dispatched with fine temperament as the music is very much of an early post-Gade nature.

Pancho Vladigerov is considered by many to be the most influential composer that Bulgaria has yet produced, gaining fame between the World Wars and earning the admiration of Shostakovich. The three works recorded here are a testament to Vladigerov’s mission to bring Bulgarian music to international attention, successfully combining elements of folk music with European classical tradition. The Vardar Rhapsody has been called ‘the Bulgarian equivalent of Chopin’s Polonaise in A’, and the lively and exotic Seven Symphonic Bulgarian Dances is among the most notable of a series of works that fuse joyous regional melodies with sophisticated Western orchestration.

Today is the official release of the beautiful album "Estampas Americanas". As I had posted last week, this is a very special collaboration. Many thanks to my dear friend Mauricio Charbonnier and the New Music of the Americas project for creating a beautiful album of music by Latin American composers. Congratulations to the extraordinary Paula Peluso - Pianista, Stanimir Todorov and Gustavo Mulé for the beautiful performances, and in particular I'm honored to hear my compositions "Pan de Azúcar" and "La alborada de la esperanza" performed by such iconic artists. Many thanks also to the recording engineers and everyone who worked to create these beautiful album that is being released by Acqua Records.
