Sacred Songs

Sacred Journey of Ku-kai is first in a series of albums intended to address personal and global concerns alongside forward-thinking views of spiritual growth. Kitaro has embarked on a spiritual pilgrimage, visiting temples on the island of Shikoku, Japan once undertaken by Buddhist holy man, Ku-kai, more than 1,100 years ago. Sampling bells sounds from each temple, Kitaro distills their essence with inspired musical landscapes.

Soprano Mary Bevan writes: “In 1975, the original Bevan Family Choir released their debut album on vinyl, featuring an eclectic programme of sacred choral works, Welsh folk songs, and piano music."

Sacred Love is the seventh studio album by Sting. The album featured smoother, R&B-style beats and experiments collaborating with hip-hop artist Mary J. Blige and sitar player Anoushka Shankar. Sting's collaboration with Blige, "Whenever I Say Your Name", won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals at the 46th Grammy Awards in 2004.

With "Les Chants de Jésus", the Schola Regina choir, conducted by Philippe Nikolov, brings to a close the trilogy of sacred songs initiated by its producer and artistic director, Max Guazzini. After Credo (2011) and Les Chants de Marie (2015), this 3rd opus aims to introduce the treasures of liturgical music in a popular spirit, to as many people as possible, but also to share them with believers, to remind how diverse our musical culture is. Taking its source in Gregorian chant, this music brings together the centuries through different musical forms that today rub shoulders.

Henryk Mikolaj Gorecki (1933–2010) achieved an international success in the mid-1990s, with his Symphony No. 3, “Symphony of Sorrowful Songs”. Since then, Gorecki’s name has been associated almost exclusively with this piece. However, his music is much more than this one brilliant work. Gorecki never looked at musical fashions, but consistently created his own sound universe. In the 1980s Gorecki, feeling misunderstood, stepped back from the official concert life in Poland. He reached out to simple folk and church melodies, making their choral arrangements.

Got A Story to Tell refines the sweet soul sounds Thee Sacred Souls have become famous for, delivering a genre pushing collection of songs that exhibit a magnetic coolness and swagger. The relaxed quality of the musicianship coupled with Josh Lane's heart-wrenching voice, gives the album a maturity that carries the listener through many facets of the soul music spectrum.

“The Armenian National Musical Treasury” project started with choosing highly qualified specialists in the field of Armenian traditional music, selecting soloists of Armenian folk songs, and forming the male chorus “Zark”, consisting of 10 singers. Vocal and instrumental compositions: folk, spiritual, ashug, were recorded. In parallel to recording, processes began directed to the creation of armenianmusic.am online music portal, in which all the recordings were placed.

It's a compilation of various Bali tribal songs. The instruments are a mixture of brass pots, drums, bells and chanting. Most of it is very rapid and stacatta in nature. If you're into "world music" or want something that's quite a departure from the garbage you hear on the radio, get this impossible to find CD. It's simply amazing.
