Ambient dub-techno duo Sounds from the Ground first came to prominence during the mid-'90s with the landmark productions "Triangle" (1994) and "Gather" (1995). After releasing these two successful singles, the duo — London, England-based producers Elliot Jones and Nick Woolfson — crafted their debut long-player, Kin (1996). The singles, as well as the album, were released on the Universal Egg label, while the well-known ambient label Waveform released the album in the States to a warm reception.

The pieces brought together on this CD range widely, from ceremonial works associated with affairs of state to intimate compositions addressing moments of great personal significance. Two of the three pieces by Parry best exemplify this contrast: if I was glad – written for the coronation of Edward VII and premiered in chaotic circumstances – fits into the former category, ‘My soul, there is a country’ (from Songs of Farewell) – composed in the year of his death – belongs in the latter.

This record took me about 3 years to complete, and I feel like in many ways it’s a return to my roots of introspective, mellow, instrumental electronic music, a “home listening” record instead of a club or dance record. I’ve always tried to not pay attention to trends in electronic music and just make what I like, and this record is the result of going strongly in that direction – I’m making music for myself, and am inspired way more by older music than current trends in electronic music or the latest production techniques. My aim is to make music that stands the test of time.
