This limited edition anniversary boxed set comprises thirty CDs spanning the wide range of the label's repertoire. "Meisterhafte Klavierquartette Die Komponistin Louis Héritte-Viardot (1841-1918) hat – wenn auch in der Öffentlichkeit wenig bekannt – der Musikgeschichte tiefe Spuren eingeprägt. Weit stärker als ihre berühmten Verwandten, ihre Mutter Pauline Viardot-Garcia (1821-1910) und ihre Tante Maria Malibran (1808-1836), zwei der berühmtesten Sängerinnen des 19. Milena Wilke was born in Freiburg in Breisgau in 1996. She won first place in the Ton und Erklärung competition (Kulturkreis der deutschen Wirtschaft) 2016 in Berlin and won several other prizes in competitions on both national and international level. In 2017, she was awarded a scholarship by the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes und des Richard-Wagner-Verbands Konstanz and was additionally welcomed in the organization Yehudi Menuhin, Live Music Now. For this new release, together with Tatiana Chernichka she has recorded several works for violin and piano and she also has written two pieces herself.

This double CD set of Schumann’s Complete Works for Piano Trio is a welcome addition to the chamber music catalogue. The trio prove to be fine ensemble giving both stirring and satisfying performances. There is a something very natural about the musicianship on show here.

While she made her much-lauded ECM debut with a thought-provoking account of Schumann’s violin sonatas last year, German violinist Carolin Widmann’s reputation as a pioneering interpreter of contemporary music is spreading continiously. “The new record brings me back to my roots”, says Widmann. To celebrate the legendary David Oistrakh, for many, one of the greatest violinists ever, Deutsche Grammophon presents a 22-CD box set which brings together for the first time all his recordings for DG, Decca, Philips & Westminster/Melodiya.

Bernd Alois Zimmermann's Concerto for violin and large orchestra (1950) is an established masterpiece by one of the most significant (but little known) postwar German composers. Hungarian Peter Eötvös has emerged as a strong and original voice of the late twentieth century, and his Cap-Ko (2005), a concerto for acoustic piano, keyboard, and orchestra, deserves a place beside Zimmermann's concerto. Czech composer Martin Smolka's Walden, the distiller of celestial dews (2000), for chorus and percussion may not prove to have the durability of the other pieces, but it exposes a creative imagination with the potential for more substantial work……..
