Recorded in Los Angeles, the album’s 12 songs feature The Living Sisters‘ sterling, four-part harmonies cascading over lilting melodies that celebrate all facets of the holiday from the naughty to the nice. Harmony Is Real consists of the Sisters’ arrangements on holiday classics such as “Jingle Bells,” “Little Drummer Boy,” and “Silver Bells,” plus eight original songs written by the Living Sisters including “Kadoka, South Dakota,” “Christmas in California,” and “Neon Chinese Christmas Eve” on which the Living Sisters put their own distinctive spin on the season.

Kitaro's score for The Soong Sisters, the story of three sisters who grew up in pre-communist China, were educated in America, and ultimately married some of China's most powerful men, mixes Eastern and Western melodies and instruments into sweeping, often romantic pieces like "Dr. Sun and Ching-Ling" and the title track. The score also shows a surprising amount of variety, moving from tense, percussive tracks such as "Man on Fire" to lively, melodic pieces like "Waltz and War."

The Pointer Sisters were one of the most successful female groups the music industry has seen with 13 top 20 singles and 8 top 40 albums shared between the US and UK pop charts. After working with hugely successful producer, Richard Perry for four years, Planet Records issued Pointer Sisters' Greatest Hits in 1982. The compilation was particularly successful in Australia where it made #11 while the Pointers toured the country. It covered the group's LPs Energy (1978), Special Things (1980) and Black & White (1981) and was issued just after their So Excited album (1982).

"So Excited!" is the ninth studio album by the Pointer Sisters, released in 1982 on the Planet label. "So Excited!" spawned a major hit with "American Music" and included a cover of a Prince tune, "I Feel for You," which was again covered by Chaka Khan two years later. The title track reached #30 on the pop charts but hit #9 when it was revived two years later after being added to the group's 1983 album, Break Out. A third single, "See How the Love Goes", was shelved due to its controversial (at the time) subject matter. The album was remastered and issued on CD with bonus tracks in 2010 by Big Break Records.

The Pointer Sisters were as chameleonic as David Bowie, if not more so. The sibling group backed Grace Slick and Boz Scaggs, made stops at Sesame Street and the Grand Ole Opry, won a country Grammy, and appeared in the movie Car Wash, all before scoring four consecutive Top Ten Billboard Hot 100 hits in the mid-‘80s. From their early ‘70s releases on Blue Thumb through their ‘80s commercial run on Planet and RCA, the Pointers moved through boogie-woogie, bebop, blues, country, funk, disco, soft rock, electro-pop, hard rock, and several other subgenres as if they were all second nature. The sisters covered Willie Dixon, were covered by Elvis Presley, and released 15 Top 40 Hot 100 singles while sustaining a steady presence on the R&B, club, and adult contemporary charts.

Hollywood was recorded with The Puppini Sisters standing round one microphone. It is the last album to be recorded with Stephanie O'Brien, who departed the group in 2012. Hollywood received mixed reviews from critics and charted at Number 16 on the Billboard Jazz Albums chart.
